Olds had ranked No. 3 in sales through the past decade. Now, for the third year in-a-row, sales hit the million mark. The two Cutlass lines amounted to nearly half Olds sales.
Rear-drive midsize appearances was similar to 1985. Sporty Salon and 4-4-2 models had a contemporary front with aero composite headlamps. Five models were offered: Supreme coupe and sedan, Supreme Brougham coupe and sedan, and Salon coupe (with 4-4-2 package available).
History repeats itself with the return of "442". A legend is reborn in the form of this stylish front runner with a high-output 5.0-liter V8 4-barrel engine with dual exhaust, 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive, 3.73 ratio axle, Special Handling Package with air shocks in back and a whole lot more.
