Progress Report

11/09/03 03:20:22 PM

Purchased 1 CS SWS 1241D Alpine 12" Dual V.C. Subwoofer

Purchased 1 CS MRD-M300 Alpine V12 600Watt Mono Amplifier

- Took out old stereo. I had to cut a hole big enough to hold my new face-plate. The old one was just one of those recievers that could only play am/fm.

11/25/03

- Strung wires from the trunk through the floor panel to be connected to the head unit.

11/26/03

- Installed new head unit. Fits like a tight glove. It could be held in there without brackets. I used a drywall saw to cut the straight lines in the wood-plastic mixture. And used a jig-saw to cut the corners and a powered sander to smooth the edges up to ensure a close fit.

- I am planning on taking pictures of my progress soon. Thanks to my brother, I had lost previous photos from when I started to take out the old stereo.

- I am going to make a custom box for the two 15" subs in the back of my trunk. I will mount the facing straight towards the trunk, wedged in with the 6"x9"s. A vertical wall will hide the wires and the speakers.

-After all of the stereo equipment was purchased I took to the trunk. Although it had certain rust issues, I found that the problems weren't too complicated. First of all, I took off the old paint right down the the metal. Next, I used an acid based metal cleaner to help fix up the rust problem. Eventually I will be cutting out the rusted areas with a cutting saw, and welding in new aluminum patches. Of course I will have to grind it down till it is all even. (That's the hard part.) Once this is done, I will repaint the trunk a chrome replica which can be found at Canadian Tire for about $8.00 per can. For now, I have just painted the trunk so that the rust doesn't proceed further than it has already, but don't get me wrong, there is barely any to begin with, I'm just picky.
