See the next few pages for Pinky's wreck. This page is all about the engine bay teardown.

Here's what it started out as not long after I blew the motor last fall:

Of course the aftermath:

Well, That was last fall. Now that it's spring the car has come out of it's Winter doze from under a tarp. The rest of the engine bay was deconstructed and we're left with this:

Yeah, that was kinda dirty...But now...

Unfortunately after using two gallons of solvent in a relatively enclosed space you end up looking like this:

Now that the engine bay is all clean, courtesy of a scrub pad and laquer thinner, time for paint, or rather primer first. Ran out the first go at it, but very shortly it will be all primered, if not all red again.dillinr's 1993 Mazda MX-6 dillinr's 1993 Mazda MX-6

Motor teardown, here's what the heads looked like inside:

And the car during our big move as it arrives at the new house:

But on to painting things, the Valve Covers turned out very nice. Using aluminum paint for the Mazda Emblem, letting it dry and then masking it off and carefully cutting away excess with a razor blade. Then I used textured metallic spray from Checker and the result was great:

Well anyways let me know and also let me in about the meeting at the E-center

Acctually most ZE dynoed come to 180 to 200 hp, theirs no promise of getting an engine with 200hp when you order. The 1.8 and the 2.5 have different bores, just stroking the 1.8 you only get 2.3L. The ZE has a high CR making it more dangerous to boost. My future plans are to install a turbo and run 6 psi as a daily driver, then eventually 10+ psi when its just for racing. Later

Nice ride. I didn't go with a ZE cuz the Kl08 is bored and stroked for free, so I get all the power of a Ze with a fraction of the price.

yo ryan, wassup. I'm mx6dave from mx6.com Saw an old post i didnt want to bring up again about VRIS controller. I have ordered a ZE for my 96 mx6, and i cant get the ZE ecu obviously. I got imformation from a guy on probetalk on how to use kl03 parts to change over to the ZE (solenoids etc). I dont think i will ever see 200 hp out of the ZE but hey... 1337.50 shipped to my door with 3 month start up warrantee isnt bad for a motor with 20 more hp instead of 40 :) besides, my 03 is DEAD anyways..im careless for the last month. I'm thinking about just leaving the ZE with my current setup, it's better than nothing. Anyways..just want to thank you for your time in providing info to us 6ers. check out my 6 sometime Later
