This is a rendering of my 914 S project race car. This is how I anticipate it will look like once it's complete. The car started out as a 1974 fuel-injected 1.8 liter but now has a custom-built Jake Raby 2316cc "Annihilator" 4-cylinder engine and ceramic-coated Tangerine Racing exhaust system with Phase I silencer.
Here I am at Gainesville Raceway in 2003 (before the flares were added). This was the car's maiden voyage. My lap times were better than a 6-cylinder 911 running with us that day. I quickly found out that an upgraded suspension system is definitely in the future for this car. The wheels pictured are OEM steel with Yokohama race tires mounted. I have a set of 5-spoke Fuchs with DOT tires that I run on the street. All four corners are equipped with custom machined BMW 320i brake calipers clamping down on rare factory cross-drilled rotors. Stopping is not a problem!
I originally built the car to be a street legal toy but lately I've decided to convert it into a purpose-built competition track car. The 110 octane fuel it requires is a bit on the expensive side just to tool around town.
On the dyno... With 191 HP and 189 ft. lbs. of torque, this beast has no problems getting around. To improve the car's HP/weight ratio my goal is to lighten it to just under 2000 lbs. Once I do that it won't be a street car any longer. It'll get a full cage and will probably lose the windshield.
The engine finally installed in the car. Typical of most Porsche 914s is that there little to no room to work from the top!
External oil cooler with electric fan. The oil is routed from a custom made tap fitting in the block. Oil temps run just perfect even during the Florida summers.
Nice view of the collectors on the well-engineered Tangerine exhaust system. They are ceramic coated for durability and heat protection.
Additional gauge cluster to monitor the health of the engine. The interior will soon be stripped out to make way for "Project: Lighten-the-heck-out-of-it".
