NYS626's 1986 Mazda 626This is my '86 626 2.0 ltr turbo 5 door touring sedan. I believe this is also the J-Spec. model, which has slightly better output.

NYS626's 1986 Mazda 626Bought this little gem back in '96 in stock trim. A little mod here & there only started a couple years ago when I needed to replace my worn out steering wheel, got the bug, and the rest is history.

NYS626's 1986 Mazda 626The car still goes well with the original engine just clocking over 275,000 km not long ago. Hopefully alot more life left in her.

NYS626's 1986 Mazda 626My 626 rolling on 17x7 mags, wrapped in 215/40ZR Eagle F1's, with new dampers and custom lowered K-Mac coils. Red brake callipers should look nice when I get some time to do it. Custom made adjustable camber top strut mounts will also be the next suspension upgrade, if time and money will allow.

NYS626's 1986 Mazda 626Showing off the ass with a custom high flowing 2.5" stainless steel cat back exhaust system and cannon muffler by HITECH. Major improvement over the stock exhaust, which was the same as the non turbo engine. Now instead of restricting the turbo when over 4.5K revs, I can cruise right up to the 6.5K redline. New custom dump pipe on its way with a 2" + 2" formed into 2.5" to equal a 3" flow. This will suit my 12psi target setup.

NYS626's 1986 Mazda 626Cut out my front bar to fit in a new custom made front mounted intercooler. Fogs look mean at night too, with LED washers on bonnet & soft lit intercooler.

NYS626's 1986 Mazda 626Modified my stock front grille by just hack sawing the internals, then new reinforcing rods, bog, paint and a touch of mesh. I'll probably get my plates remade in a slim format at some stage, to expose the intercooler a little bit more.

NYS626's 1986 Mazda 626Cut in a pair of bonnet vents to help cool the engine bay. Don't know whether its her age or my driving, but it gets very hot under there...........

NYS626's 1986 Mazda 626Under the hood is pretty neat, but damn is it full. Took for ever to figure out how to squeeze in the piping and GFB BOV (plumb back), then try and connect it to the intercooler.

NYS626's 1986 Mazda 626I introduced the interior to a spot of red on my new steering wheel...........but the infection has slowly spread across the whole cabin to include the doors and center console. The carpet will also be replaced soon, probably just in a charcoal grey because more red may be too much.

NYS626's 1986 Mazda 626I painted the rear folding seats and door panels to match the front seat covers, rather than getting custom covers made up (much cheaper)

NYS626's 1986 Mazda 626My little Splitfire Boost guage & controller are the most recent mods to get ready for a jump up from the stock 8psi. I'm currently running 10 psi now, and you can really feel how much harder the car pulls. Can't wait to install my adjustable fuel regulator & fuel cut defender, so that I can run 12psi safely. Additional orange lit switches control the fog / bonnet lights, and the intercooler light in behind the bumper.

Previous mods have included removing mud flaps, wheel guard mouldings, wipers, window tinting, sound system & alarm.

The original sound system eventually died and got replaced with Pioneer head unit (4x45w), disc stacker & front speakers. 8" Sony Xplode Splits in the rear do most of the work now, with additional sound insulation in the boot and parcel shelf giving much smoother bass.

Hope to get up more pics as the mods continue. Feel free to rate my car & leave comments / suggestions in the guestbook
