On this page I represent the shorter throw of a B&M short shifter. The actual throws may be off an inch or so as the camera may not have been in the same position as the first shot...but I think it shows the significancy of using the short throw shifter.
First off...here is a comparison of the stock shifter and the new B&M. The pivot point on the B&M is lined up with the pivot point on the stocker.

If you look closely at the next following pics, you will notice the new B&M shifter has been 'shadowed' onto the stock just for comparison purposes...
