I wish I still had this car...
Saw it at a dealer in May 2002 for $495.
Looked around and saw removed "rx 4wd turbo" stickers on side, then saw "4wd turbo"
Looked inside and saw checkered seats and the 5 speed, I was sold.
Test drove it, and it drove excellent.
Brought it to my brother's (he's a big subaru fan) and he was like "Cool, is it 4 wheel drive?" I said "Yeah, and check this out..." and escorted him to the back and pointed to "4WD Turbo" he was like "COOL DUDE!!! Can I drive it?!?!?!"
So we took it through the paces, my brother had a grin on his face the whole time, then, on a dirt road, he was like "Hang on" and popped it in 4LO and popped the clutch in 1st, and no spin at all, just instant launch. All he said was "YEAH!"
Then I was driving it home, and the engine started locking up (my brother was worried about the low oil pressure at speed, but wasn't too worried becuase all the subarus he owned had low pressure at idle due to the flat design), and maybe the oil pump failed or something, but there was 1/4" of shavings in the pan when we pulled it off. What a shame. That'd be like finding a rusty 2004 WRX STi in a cheap car lot in 2020 for $500 and engine locks up.
Some things I know:
115 horsepower 1.8L MPI H-4 Turbo
Close ratio 5 speed (does 4000 RPM at 55 in 5th)
8 or 10 way manual driver seat.
Trick pass-through rear armrest with 60/40 split folding seats (behind armrest was a folding panel with a lock for skis and the like).
No power options on this one for some reason (manual windows, manual locks, and manual steering), probly a purpose ordered car cause some dude wanted as close to a rally car as he could get.
