1939 Mercury Tudor Sedan - "This is where it all begins!" This is my pride and joy. It doesn't look like much now, but upon completion it will be one of the finest Hot Rods in Winnipeg. The car became mine July 2003. I was trying to find a '47 Ford Tudor Sedan project car, when I was talking to my father at the 2003 MSRA Back to the 50's Weekend and he suggested a '39 Merc. At the time I had never seen one, but apparently he purchased this Merc in 1980 for $600 cdn here in Winnipeg. He began to convert it to disc breaks after he bought it, but soon after gave up and it had been sitting since. When we got back to Winnipeg we went to find the car and after about a week it was towed to my Fathers new place outside of Winnipeg, where I began plans for my wicked custom Hot Rod.

Just recently (02/10/03) I had the merc towed in to my school, Murdoch Mackay Collegiate, so I could strip the car to a bare shell. On that same night our school Auto club, Murdoch Motorsports, held a tech session on detailing cars. I of coarse had to work that night, so I got to the session late. But as soon as I walked in I saw a local Monte Carlo and Firebird, wicked restorations, the regular shop cars and a small crowd around my merc. Naturally I walked over there to brag. The most common comment was, "It's in amazing shape!" and I have to agree, I mean that was one of the reasons why I wanted to build this car. The merc was solid, with no rust, when my dad bought the car in 1980 and because it sat on an old car hauler since then, it remained solid because it was protected from the elements.

Aside from the surface rust this merc is in amazing condition. I've still yet to find a rust hole or body putty. Even the floor is solid. The only real body work I need to do is on the driver side fenders and running board because they're dented. But unfortunately the driver door is so badly dented and damaged that I am going to have to replace it. I'm also going to need new glass for every window and the head lights. Fortunately, with the exception of the doors, I can replace the glass with Reproduction '40 Ford glass and the rare taillights are in perfect condition so I don't have to worry about them.
