This page is for my Mazda 13B powered RX-Midget. The car started life as a fully restored 1976 MG Midget that had been totaled when a driver rear-ended me while out for a drive on a summer afternoon. The accident pushed the bumper up to the middle of the trunk and destroyed everything behind the rear wheels.
The idea you see here was spawned by the Ro-Spit project that GRM built a few years ago as well as rumors of other rotary powered Spridgets. Since I was unable to find much info on other rotary Spridgets back in 1999, I designed and built the car myself using the Ro-Spit as a guide. The rear suspension uses a custom 4 link with coil over shocks to locate the narrowed Mazda RX-7 axle. The front suspension is somewhat stock appearing right now with small tweaks for negative camber and relocated sway bar. The car also runs very large vented Wilwood front brakes and large (for this car) vented rear disk brakes from the RX-7 to balance the power equation (power in must = power out).
The RX-Midget was featured in the December 2005, Grassroots Motorsports Magazine and also in the November 2004, RX-Tuner Magazine (no longer in print).
The car currently rides on 15x8” Superlite wheels with Hankook Ventus F200 slicks or 15x7 Superlites with Hankook rain tires.
The car has run in several Time Trials with SCCA, EMRA and one NASA event (the first HyperFest!). This past year was the first year to run Hill Climbs with the PHA/SCCA/NEPA region. I finished my rookie year by winning the PHA Specials-2 class championship and setting a class record at Summit Point, WV.
