This page is dedicated to the G body Monte Carlo SS.

In 1983 the new Monte Carlo Super Sport Package was produced. RPO Code Z65 SS. It included a high-output V-8 pulling 175 net horsepower, upgraded suspension, dual exhaust, rear spoiler, and new front end styling. The well-known SS front nose piece was designed to be aerodynamic with a lower coefficient of drag, which was also useful for NASCAR racers.

The 1984 Monte SS package introduced bucket seats and an optional center console. The output of the V-8 for 1984 added 5 more horsepower over the previous years SS, rated at 180 HP. The coefficient of drag was stated this year at 0.375.

For 1985 Chevrolet published these specifications for the Monte Carlo SS: 0-50 mph - 6.0 seconds; 0-60 mph - 8.4 seconds; standing mile - 16.1 seconds; lateral acceleration 0.82 G.
The SS muscle car was no different for 1986, but brought us the Monte Carlo Aero Coupe, a mod that amounted to a heavily sloped rear window and short trunk lid, similar to the rear window slope of the F body (Camaro, Firebird, etc). Only 200 Monte Carlo Aero Coupes were manufactured for retail in 1986; the required production required for the NASCAR racing teams to use the Monte Carlo body and legally use this important sloped mod for racing. So, NASCAR politics spawn a collectible.

1987 and 1988 SS muscle car craze continued with the Aero Coupe due to its success in the market. These model years brought other minor changes, mostly appearance and comfort related. My preference is the 1987-1988 model year, because it has the cleanest and most modern look combined with that styling and performance platform. Production of the Monte Carlo ceased on Friday, December 11, 1987 at 5:29 PM.
