This was my 1987 Oldsmobile 442. (Sold in 07) It's fully optioned with a moonroof and limited slip rear end. It was recently repainted the correct burgandy color in B/C paint with three coats of each. The aftermarket decals came from Pheonix Graphics. I added a Lightning Rod Shifter with a custom top cover and a 83-84 H/O Hood scoop. This is the way I think the 442 should have been built!

Information:

The late 1980's was the end of an era; This was the last decade of the box-sedan muscle cars. General Motors made five different models of the box-sedan; the Chevy Monte Carlo, Chevy Malibu, Buick Regal, Pontiac Grand Prix, Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. General Motors classified these as G-Body cars.

In 1983, Oldsmobile resurrected the Hurst/Olds on the modern G-body platform. These cars got a High Output (VIN 9) engine, hood scoop, rear deck spoiler, special paint scheme, and the lightning rod shifters among other things. This package was also available in 1984, and was based on the Cutlass Calais.

The 442 was resurrected in 1985 and produced thru 1987. In 1985 and 1986, the 442 was based on the Cutlass Salon, which was the "high-end" of the Oldsmobile G-body line. In 1987, to reduce the cost of the 442 package, it was offered only on the Cutlass Supreme style, nothing much was changed.
Production numbers for these "performance" Oldsmobiles were:

1983 Hurst/Olds 3,001
1984 Hurst/Olds 3,500
1985 442 3,000
1986 442 4,273
1987 442 4,208

Total 17,982

If you are wondering what the 4-4-2 stands for in 1985, 1986, and 1987 it stood for (four-barrel carburetor, four-speed automatic transmission, and duel exhaust)

AWESOME web page...so MUCH info about the Olds heritage and DEMISE(sob, sob!!) Oh well..NICE ride and I agree with your comments about how Olds should have built the last of the 442's! That is EXACTLY what they should have done to build the 442 into history as one of the Best model 442 ever! Instead they just didn't even attempt to reinstate the 442 performance history and it died quietly unlike the Buick GN did with the GNX!...and we all know how THAT turned out! So I guess it is all up to us 442 owners to do it as they should have done from the factory! LONG LIVE the OLDS 442...and modify them as you think they should have been when NEW from OLDSMOBILE! By the way, when is the next "Olds Dust-Off" Car Show in 2009? I would love to go to it in my 1987 442 next year.
