*** UPDATE *** WOE is me.... As I was getting around to cleaning up my turbo (brush and paint) to make it match the exhaust elbow,
I discovered a major problem. My wastegate showed several serious cracks in the housing... Once I got the exhaust housing off, I was able to see even worse cracks. It seems that the cracks start from the inside and I had one that was right down the middle of the snail tubing... looked like the housing would have split in two at one point. I also researched these cracks and it is a commom item on CT26 turbos with the single wastegate. This was much improved with the newer version of the CT26 exhaust housing on more receint MR2s, it has 2 valves for the wastegate as well as a entry divider casting that seperates the exhauses that enter the turbo. Check out this link for a better explaination (www.alltrac.net/tuning/turbofaq.html) Guess it is time to get back to eBay and some shopping...
*** UPDATE *** Well, I found something that is perfect to replace my turbo problems... a newly rebuilt CT26 with a T04B compressor kit (a CT26 62 1 upgrade)... should be interesting and add some extra kick in the pants feeling when the boost comes on. I would like to thank Steve Vang(webmaster@teamdragsta.com) for supplying the turbo along with excellent customer service skills.
In your face boost machine !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...... Now that looks like a better wasgate if you ask me...
All dressed up and ready to be installed after I remove the masking tape. No more Woe is me!
*** UPDATE *** Been a while... Got everything together... car ran sweet but did not push it as I wanted to give it a 3000km break-in period as well as a retorque... OK, retorqued the ARP bolts and started to "enjoy" the car... and guess what... I got an exhaust leak... ok, try to tighten up the exhaust manifold bolts... STRIPPED!!!... repaired the problem with Heli-Coils (an absolute MUST-DO if anyone is redoing their head)... still have leak, hmmm, ERG bolts are loose and gasket from Apexi (cloth) is blown... PITA to get to these bolts until the supraforum gurus recommeded dropping the crossmember which lowered the engine and gave me access... OK, fixed that up... much better now, have a response from the turbo.
*** UPDATE *** Purchased and installed a 3" elbow/downpipe as well as a 3" hi-flow cat... WOW... spool very quick, like around 2500rpm... I LOVE IT.... BTW, have pushed the car to 220km with these mods and still have pedal left before I can say I floored it!
