53Fordillac's 1953 Ford F-Series Pick-Up

Well this is our 53 Fordillac Project, you'll see why I call it that in the next couple of pictures. This picture is of the one piece all steel front clip that flips forward. I will try to have a picture of it in the next week or two.

This is the front of the truck which we are working on stripping the wiring and smoothing out the frame in preparation for the new motor.

This is the engine. It is Caddilac's 500 cid 8.2L Big Block. In stock form this engine makes 365hp and 535 lb. ft. of torque @2000rpm. In the future we are planning on stroking out this motor to 570 cid with a kit from MTS.

Shaved door handles.

These are 4ft. ladder bars welded to the frame for wheel standing traction.

To help even more with the traction, there are coilovers and leaf springs.

These tires are 14" wide with a 15" wheel. The tires are true vintage, they are Bobby Unser Specials from the 70's and amazingly one still holds air. We will replace them with new drag tires soon.

This is our Sweet gas cap. An old 7up can because the original was lost.

Ford 9" posi rear with 4.11 gears, hopefully we wont burn up tires like crazy with all that torque on demand.

This is the interior, most of this will be redone, someone turned it into a hot rod in the 70's and used shag carpet all over and that will be gone once we get around to the interior.

The seats came out of a 79 Camaro and will be reupholstered soon. You can also see that ugly shag carpet on the back of the cab.

This is the mess of wiring that will be removed and totally rewired, this is only about 1 third of the wiring under the dash and in the engine compartment.

We will update this project on a regular basis so keep looking for new pictures. We should have the motor in the truck in a few days, i cant wait to see what it will do.

The 500 Cad is a great choice. Check my '53 F-100 (Bob Jones Special) on this site. I started out with a 3.50:1 rear end and the thing felt like it was in 2nd gear all the time on the highway. It would smoke the tires easily. So I changed it to a 3.0:1 and it STILL felt like it was too low-geared. I've got a 2.75:1 in it now, and I still turned a 12.9 1/4-mile at 5,800 ft altitude. (Denver) If you put the aluminum Edelbrock intake manifold on the Cad it's worth about 30-more horsepower, and makes the engine only 100-pounds heavier than a small block Chevy! The Cads are about 100-pounds lighter than the big block Chevy or the big block Fords. ralph
