This is my 1985 Pontiac Fiero sport coupe that I bought July 3rd 2003 with 189,920kms on the odometer (it now has over 240,000). It has the 2.5L L4 engine, that makes 92 horsepower, has 135 pounds of torque and gets up to 46 miles per gallon. This Fiero is #43883 out of 76371 produced in 1985. I drove it over 18,000km within 7 months until I pushed it too hard one January evening on a Winnipeg highway and blew the engine. It wasn't until spring break that we had the car towed back to Regina and parked it beside my house. I then drove a 1997 Ford Escort Wagon. I finally found a used 2.5L engine from a 1986 Cutlass Ciera for $850, spent $80 for a new battery, $160 for 3 months worth of insurance, and sent in my car to the shop. It was there for 4 more weeks before the engine swap was complete (just shy of $1500 for the instalation, a new alternator, and PVC valve).

The Fiero's engine breaks down late January 2004. Eventually gets towed back to Regina (February 2004):

*Update 12/3/05* An SUV went through a stop sign and ended up on top of my car. Even though the headlight was gouged out and the hood/fender/bumper are damaged, the front end didn't crumple under imact at all! Nonetheless, cost to repair is estimated at $4,200, and my insurance company appraised my car at $3,490 so it's written off. :'(

How much my 1985 Pontiac Fiero has cost me in 2 years, 5 months, and 55000km later:

Purchase price: $2,200
Engine + installation: $2,500
Rims + tires $560
New starter x2 + brakes: $530
Towing $200
Misc repairs: $500
Insurance: $1,200
Gasoline: $4,500
Write off: -$3,490
-----------------------------
Total: $8,700!

But really... that's only $0.16 for every kilometer I've driven (or $3,346 per year)
