Manual Conversion 2003 Then Back to Automatic 2004
It is official, the automatic is back in the car. I forgot how much I loved it. This car was meant to be an auto and I should have never converted it. The Borg Warner 5 Speed is the crapiest manual transmission I have ever used.
I rebuilt the 700R4 before reinstalling it. I installed a few new performance parts and did a rebuild. New clutches, steels and bands were installed as well as all new o-rings and gaskets. I also upgraded to a 10 vane pump. The torque converter preasure switch had to be replaced also because AMMCO broke the original one and glued it back together. I kept the same B&M shift kit in that I had before. I did some governor adjustments to to improve the WOT shift points. I also replaced the stock stall converter with a 2400 stall TCI. And of course I reinstalled the B&M Megashifter and fabricated a new aluminum top plate for the console that won't crack from shifting hard.
Converted to 5 Speed from 700r4 in August of 2003.
Borg Warner T5 World Class 5 Speed: Ram Clutch/Pressure Plate, GM Flywheel, Hurst Billet/Plus Shifter
Manual Pedal Assembly Automatic Pedal Assembly T5 Painted Chevy Orange Clutch Hydraulics Bellhousing, Clutch Fork, FlywheelThe conversion itself only took about 2 days. The only problems I had with the conversion was the clutch not dissengaging at first. A new set of hydraulics fixed that problem. Other than that, it is not an incredibly hard job to do.

I tried to make it all work, but eventually I just took out that whole cowl intake assembly (except for the drip rail). Now it's always open so I don't need to mash the throttle to get extra cold air. Thx for the info.

Beautiful car. Is your hood bulge still working without the stock air cleaner? If so, what did you do to make it work?
