Greetings from Singapore!

**Introduction**

senna1977's 1992 Mazda Miata

Hello, this is my 1992 Miata! I got it in February 2003 and I received it in stock form. It was also in very bad mechanical shape...happily, after emptying my bank account and spending countless days at workshops and D.I.Y-ing, it is now very smooth and a pleasure to drive. The power gains are nothing big, but the improvements are satisfying.

Modifying this car is an addiction...

Why do I, and other enthusiasts, meddle with Mazda's engineers' designs? Because engineers design parts that are a compromise between costs and performance, usually skewed towards costs. With decent imagination, mechanical knowledge and creativity, much improvement can indeed be made to any mass-produced car and turn it into a customised, well-finished machine. Plus it is PURE FUN! :)

Along with my turbo, I decided to have better stopping power and have fitted a pair of FD RX7 front brake calipers with slotted discs. The braking is much improved and the extremely light 4-pot calipers are pure heavenly!

Just installed these goodies! As advertised, it makes the car feel more direct, and power transmission is better. Lovely!

...and the list goes on and on...

I usually dyno-run the car after installng parts and tuning as this is the only way to see tangible results. Certain magazines such as Import Tuner have very useful tests on aftermarket parts which are also dyno tested. From there, I then decide whether or not to spend the time and $$$!

The result of all the hardwork is an improvement from the stock 116Hp to a dyno result of 140Hp and 155Nm of torque. Not bad for a 13-year old engine, normally aspirated!

14th June 2005: My latest dyno figures at the wheels are 111.1hp@6697rpm, with torque at about 127Nm@3934rpm. That's roughly 140hp and 155Nm at the flywheel. The car's timing had to be 'retarded' on my ITC unit as the FM camgears had advanced the CAS's timing. This caused much pinging which was why I had to re-tune the car. Turned out that a few choice timing retards and a few minor adjustments yielded a few more ponies.

The torque curve...

**I succumbed to the Dark Side- Turbocharged at 0.3 bar boost for 170hp...more to follow!**

It is quite oily and dirty at the moment as I have not had time to spruce it up the past year. I have plans for the car this new year, BIG plans!

The rest of the pages will show how my car has evolved...and I hope it will keep on evolving! Hope you have fun reading my deeds!!
