Chrysler rear end project.

This was done because the stock 9 bolt that was in the car is weak. I didnt have any problems with the rear end this was just preventative maintenance. We (me and my grandfather) did this over the summer of 2003. We did it because he had done it before on an 82 camaro and we had some of the stuff we needed to do it. We had a spare 10 bolt from an 82-92 f body to get the spring perches off and my dad also had a spare center section for a Chrysler 8 3/4 with 4.10 gears. What we did is measured the distances from end to end and then looked for a rear end. We found that the Chrysler e body, which is a 70-74 challenger and charger I think, is the exact width. But finding one of those is hard and possible expensive. So we continued to measure and we found a rear end from a 1969 dodge van 1/2 ton is 3/16 of an inch narrower, so its perfect. We got it for like 125 and proceeded to take it apart. What we did next was cut all the Chrysler spring perches off so it was just the tubes. Once that was done we carefully cut the spring perches off the f body rear. This is were it starts to get tricky and your math skills come out. Basically what was done is everything was measured and then put into the right position or the same position that it was when it was in the f body rear. Then once that was done and tacked, we measured again, and again, and then welded the spring perches in. The next thing to tackle, the torque arm mount. Since I didnt want a straight-line car a 4 link was outta the question. So there has to be a torque arm mount. And it mounts to the 3rd member. This also took a lot of fabrication to make this part because it has to slip over the 3rd member and then hold the torque arm. Also the drive shaft had to be shortened and the brakes taken car of. Heres some pics, mostly towards the end of the build though. Any comments or questions just leave em. Also I forgot, the axles had to be drilled for the 5 on 4 3/4-bolt pattern and the drums had to be drilled too.

Not bad! :) What year is your T/A? I see 91/92 tails first, with an 85 T/A spoiler, then 85-90 tails. Take a look at my 88 GTA when you can!
