Motorized Screen:

as seen in the video, i've devised a mechanism to motorize the screen using the stock map pocket. i decided to go with a linear actuator, which several other people have done. the solution is cheap and relatively easy to accomplish. here are some pics of the construction process...

Carnetix P1900 PSU:

this is a closeup of the carnetix psu. the molex connector on the left has the wires that go to the car's battery, ground, and ignition signal. those green and black wires on the left are wired to a button up front. if i push the button, it'll turn on the psu without the detection of an ignition signal. basically, it lets the psu get a head start on powering the computer should you decide to do so before starting the car. i don't really use this feature, but i've heard of people wiring this to their tail lights or something so that when they unlock their car with a remote, it starts the computer before even getting in the car. anyway, the molex connector on the right has all the wires that go to the computer and a secondary +12V rail that i use to power the lilliput monitor. if you look a little more closely, there are some wires coming out the bottom of the psu. the red one is the +5V rail from the P5V that is used to power the external dvd drive. the green and black wires from the bottom go to the laptop's power button. also, you can see that i used some plain old audio connectors to wire stuff up. it makes it a lot easier to disconnect wires if i ever need to take stuff out of my car or re-wire things.

Ok that's great -- really nice work on the motorized screen! I have a carputer in my speed 3, and the fab came out pretty good, but I really dig the motorization. Keep modding!

Im looking at designing a carputer myself. I must say your work is impecable. Did you manage to get the audio to pump through the car speakers? If so, could you explain how you managed that, and did it remove any use of the stock headunit. I would appreciate any info you can supply. Thanks!
