Brake Light Mod:

the stock M6 comes with four tail lights, two on each side. but only the outer two are utilized as brake lights. however, the two inner tail lights are equipped with dual filament bulbs. interesting, right? so people have posted directions in the M6 forums on how to wire these up into another set of working brake lights. different methods have been used. but since i have the spoiler with the center brake light, i decided to go with MadJoe's method of tapping into the spoiler brake light. this method is much cleaner, much easier, and eliminates the need to run wires into the trunk.

as far as materials, i just went to radio shack and picked up a spool of 18-gauge wire and a pack of tap-in connectors. all in all, i think it cost me around $7 + change.

the first step is to remove the fasteners in the trunk lid. you don't have to remove all of them, just enough to gain access to the tail lights. this is pretty simple.

here is the passenger side tail light. you can see the stock black + green wires running into the tail light connector. all you need to do is strip one end of your wire and insert it into the empty connector slot on the right.

same with the driver side.

at this point, you should have a wire running from one tail light to the other. the connector for the spoiler brake light is directly behind the driver side tail light connector. it is a white connector with two white wires running into it. you can disconnect it, as this will make it easier to secure the tap-in connector.

the tap-in connectors are great. they're easy to use and there's no wire splicing involved. so here, you can see that on one side of the connector is the wire running to the tail lights, and on the other side is the hot wire for the spoiler brake light. the hot wire is the white one with a black stripe on it.

snap the spoiler light connector back into place.

secure wires with tape, if necessary.

and the end result.

Ok that's great -- really nice work on the motorized screen! I have a carputer in my speed 3, and the fab came out pretty good, but I really dig the motorization. Keep modding!

Im looking at designing a carputer myself. I must say your work is impecable. Did you manage to get the audio to pump through the car speakers? If so, could you explain how you managed that, and did it remove any use of the stock headunit. I would appreciate any info you can supply. Thanks!
