Progress on the Car

Sartuche23's 1995 Eagle Talon Aug. 21st, 2003 Well here is some space for me to show off my 1995 Eagle Talon AWD TSi 2.0L Inline 4 Turbo. I bought the car back in December of 2000 from my father in-law just because I've always wanted a Eclipse or Talon which are basically the same car and I liked the color of it which is a Metallic Green and Black Top. After buying the car and reading about it for almost 2 years I have learned a lot about the car and how much I love driving it. Nothing kicks more ass than having a turbo and AWD all in one. It handles great in the winter because of the AWD system, nothing like watching all the RWD guys stuck in the snow trying to get traction. I'm going to update the drivetrain as time goes on by putting limited slip differentials in the front, center and rear so the car can handle even better than it does now.

I had the car scare the sh*t out of me one day, the rear alignment was off because my father in-law had the front checked and but didn't do the rear, well one of the tires was toed in about a inch and having it toed in and hitting a patch of black ice at 50mph doesn't mix. The ass of the car swung out to the left and I tried to get control of the car but couldn't because of the messed up alignment, I ended up doing a 180 on the highway with cars coming at me head on, luckily I finally stopped facing traffic but was on the shoulder and out of the way. After I stopped a lady in a Grand AM spun out also but she went towards the median and stopped barely missing the wall. The paint is chipping off the front bumper which and the reason it's chipping is because the idiot that painted it used some crappy ass paint and any little thing that hits the paint makes it chip off, hell I can even take my finger nail and make the paint come off. My father in-law called up the guy and he said they had a recall on the paint and to bring it back in and he would repaint the car for free.

The first thing I did to the car was back in September,2002, which was put a A'pexi Auto Turbo Timer on it, you know the one thats about the size of a pen. I really started to mod the car on March 7,2003, and the first mods I did were free mods which can be found at VFAQ, the free mods are boost control restrictor removed which adds about 2-3 psi, I cut the dumptube so that it's flush with the inside of the intake so it Sartuche23's 1995 Eagle Talondoesn't block air flow, I also took off the valve cover and replaced the gasket that was leaking and then painted it black. March 27th I put a A'pexi Power Intake on and that really helped the car out. I purchased it at RPM Motoring for $121.20 shipped to my front door. August 4th I put a Dave Brode UICP w/1G BOV, Dave Brode MAS Intake Pipe, and you can purchase this stuff from Dave Brode who makes these thing's on the side but does a very good job at doing it. He deburs the welds and sends all the stuff you need to hook it up and very easy to read instructions also. His page of stuff is here Dave Brode UICP. He's very prompt at mailing it out and sending the tracking numbers also.

August 13th,2003 I put a Greddy Counter Weight Shift Knob on which weighs approx. 13ozs, a Autometer Carbon Fiber Ultralite Boost Gauge, and a Autometer 2G Gauge Bezel which holds 2 52mm gauges. I like the gauge holder because it keeps it out of site from the other drivers, and it's right next to my rpm gauge so I can look at it, my rpm's, and my a/f ratio at the same time. I will eventually have a Triple Gauge A Pillar pod but thats after I do this damn timing belt which I'm not looking forward to doing. September 13,2003 I replaced the alternator which was already on it's way out last winter. I don't want it leaving me stranded like it did last year, or killing off my battery like it did also.

I can't wait for my buddy Angel to get his Turbo Alty up and running again, so I can run against and see how I do. I'm sure he'll kick my ass this time, but my car pulls a lot harder than it did before. The last time I ran him was back in March, but I didn't have my intake done or a upgraded UICP along with the 1G Bov. Damn 2G bov's suck ass, they leak after 12psi, but now my car holds 15psi like nothing. I want to take it back to the track before they close for the season but who knows.

Nov. 28th,2003 Well I finally did the timing belt on my car and let me tell you, that was a bitch to change. I also eliminated the balance shafts also, because that belt likes to break and get caught up in the timing belt. It removed between 5-7 lbs. of rotational mass. Let me tell you after removing them the car revs faster and seems to run better without them. My belt was 25,757 miles overdue I'm just glad that none of the belts broke and messed up my car. After taking the belts off I inspected them and the balance shaft belt was cracked pretty bad compared to the timing belt. The timing belt small cracks but the balance belt had huge cracks and wasn't going to last much longer. It took me a total of 4 days but that was only being able to work on it for now more than 8 hours a day and some days I only worked 5 hours on it.

I could have had it done sooner if it wasn't for some problem's that I ran into. Rusted bolts and breaking bolts just added to the frustration of working on the car. Next time I do the timing belt it won't take so long since I don't have to remove the transfer case and oil pump and what not. I spent close to 4 hours trying to get the damn lower lateral ball joint and lower control arm assy. on the damn car. I need to order another lower control arm assy. because the bolt on mine is stripped, it's holding on and the nut won't pop off I just can't thread it any further onto the bolt. I'd also like to thank KA24DET for helping me out, man if it wasn't for you I'd still be working on this damn thing. I love this car but it was pain in the ass doing the timing belt and balance shaft mod. The timing belt and balance shaft mod it self wasn't hard it was getting all the rusted bolts and other crap out of the way.

Like the downpipe, your supposed to take it off but I couldn't get the bolt to the cat off so I let it hang there. It did a nice job of holding the axle up but was in the way of transfer case. After doing all this work my wife was like why don't you trade the car in, sorry no can do. I didn't spend 4 days working on this damn thing just to turn around and trade it in, also I couldn't see myself parting with the car.

Dec. 2nd,2003 Well after having had the car fixed for a couple of days the damn nut on the lower control arm assy. stripped it self off and the control arm popped out. Thankfully when it happened I was only doing 15mph so nothing major happened. I ordered some new nuts and cleaned the threads out on the control arm and got the new nut to go on perfectly. It's nice and tight now but I'm just glad when it happened that I was only doing 15mph and 60mph.

Dec. 6th,2003I got to race behind my buddy H22HB while he raced a new EVO VIII. The first time the EVO spanked his ass but the second time the EVO was at his passenger side door so I have to say he did a pretty good job against the EVO. I know I hit 125mph so they had to be doing a little more than that. I was behind them but my car did a pretty good job of keeping up with them. Once I do my exhaust and a few other things I'll be able to spank the EVO. I'm in the process of buying a new 2004 Lancer Ralliart Edition. I never really cared for the Lancer but the Ralliart Edition they re-did the front end and it has ground effects and a spoiler in the back. Has gauges like the EVO VII but the mph only go to 120. Has a sport tuned suspension, and the EVO short shifter. I know the guy that runs the dealership and he's going to cut me one awesome ass deal. I was the first person to drive the car since they had only gotten it that day.

It had only 9 miles on it when I drove it, plus they let me keep it over night to see if I really liked it. I was like man I really want this car, and to top things off their going to let me trade the Talon in so I can get some credit towards the car. Then my mom is going to buy the car back for $1 plus sales tax, yes I said $1. This way I can get the Talon paid off and still keept it. There also not going to charge me all of the damn dealership cost that they charge everybody else. So I will find out more about this tomorrow and we'll go from there.

Dec. 11th,2003 Well I purchased the new 2004 Lancer Ralliart Edition and I must say it's a awesome little car. The engine has peppy and can get up in the mph without a problem. I can pull 4th gear all the way 104mph, I still haven't found out what the top speed is but I know it can do 130mph but thats from reading what other people have gotten the car too. Heres a link to my cardomain site for it 2004 Lancer. I can actually say that I have a real import because the car was made in Japan and imported over here, they're only making 6500 of these the first year just like the EVO. I call this the poor man's EVO or the EVO's little brother. So visit the site and let me know what you think of the car.

Everything looks pretty nice from what I can see. An exhaust should be your next mod. Your car will sound awesome with a BOV and Turbo. Good luck man. Come check out my Intrepid.
