I had to choose a car for my new private tour guide business. We were considering Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz. My budget meant I was restricted to the mid 2000s, and we very quickly decided to drop BMW due to fears of reliability. The Audi A6 was most common in my area, but the rear legroom, especially the footwell is a little too small. A8s are around, but mostly high mileage models imported from Japan, where the history is unknown. That left MB, and I test drove one Japanese import E500 before finding this one. The odometer read somewhere around 120000 km, but it felt really tired and rough. It was chance that I found this one listed and although it was more than we wanted to spend, it is really the perfect car for the job. With only one local owner from new, and very low km (52,000km), it feels very tight and looks very tidy. The clincher was that it has the panoramic glass roof! It's not going to get the usual mods that car domain fans like. If anything I may update the audio/visual, to at least have iPhone compatibility, and maybe a window tint for better passenger privacy. The wheels look great (factory 18" AMG), but they could probably do with some cosmetic repairs. Finally, I'll keep it clean, and keep up with maintenance. As great as this car is, it's primarily a tool for me and it needs to stay reliable.I'm looking forward to my first road trip!
