Las Vegas, Bug-O-Rama

Blokeswagen's 1962 Volkswagen Beetle

On Oct 3/2003 I went down to the Vegas Bug-O-Rama. I met Mike (the red bug on my friends rides page) and hid friend Dustin. We had an awesome time. The new Unlimited Street class was awesome. I got lots of pics, so here we go.

First off here is Mike Scott's 55 Oval window, this car is amazing, lowered down on 17" Porschs 993 wheels. It is putting out massive power from a T-61 turbocharged, alcohol injected 2789cc Auto-Craft motor, and this is a STREET car. It ran a best on the weekend of 10.01 at 140mph, on the 26x8" slicks that are mounted to Porsche Fuchs in the pic. The wheelie he pulled while racing Dominic Luppino was amazing it popped up on launch but then the boost came on and lifted it up about 3 ft and carried then for over 80ft, I got it as it was coming up(see pic below on right), and still ran 11.10. Wicked car:

This is Kris Laufler's class winning vert (Unlimited Street), it has a turbo/nitros (although he wasn't using the juice) equiped alcohol injected motor. He ran a best of 9.45 @ 142 mph, amazing for a street car, on stock pan and suspension:

This is Scott Fetherolf's roof chopped oval, he ran a best of 10.45 in the Unlimited Street class. This has 2275cc T3/T4 turbocharged motor and the intercooler is mounted in the rear wing. Nice:

The pic below is the final of Kris Laufler against Mike Scott's oval, Laufler won with a 9.45 to Scott's 10.4 (Mike missed 3rd gear):

These are a few of the race cars that were there.

This is Pat Downs' Bug, he is the head Engine/Performance guy a CB Performance. He is a really nice guy and spent about 1/2 hour talking to us, even though he was busy tuning his new race car:

Here is the Motor in Don Browns JCL built race car. Beautiful:

This is Kris Laufler's other car, The Nail. It is a VW powered slingshot dragster with a Carbon Fibre body (if you can call it that). It ran a best of 6.57 @ 203.98mph, they couldn't back it up but came close with a 6.64 sec run:

Here are some Car Show photos:

Here are some cars in the Renn Kafer Cup class. This is a show and go event, they have to be N/A (no power adder) cars that are street legal. They are judged on show points and all street equipment has to be there, this is then combined with their result from an elimitation style event for their final score.

Another amazing RKC car:

I can't believe they race these cars.

Very nice looking Cal look. I'm new to car domain and I'm trying to take a look at all the other VWs and say hello. I really like what you've done. I just got my '56 Dubbug up and as you'll see I went a little bit past the Cal look but, she certainly looks fast. I don't regret going full custom, but the clean Cal look has a great style. Nice job.

Hey,
I get my jets from work, since I work at a VW performance shop (I work in the machine shop and build engines, do machine work etc...) Anyway that gearing combo should work, depending on your tire height. I'm guessing your gonna go with a 26" tall slick? I have taller gears in mine 1st through 3rd, though my 4th gear is almost the same thing (I've gota a 1.21 forth). My tranny was geared for a 24" tall tire though. Have you driven it with the 86c yet? I ran a custom ground web cam that was the same profile as the FK-87, and the car was alot slower compaired to the 86c, with everything else the same. I think you'll like it!
