For the purists, the period correct flashing red beacon is the Fireball Model FBH 12(L). These are no longer in production so you will have to watch for them on eBay or check with your local police and fire departments for any that are sitting on a shelf.
While you are perusing eBay , be sure to find a Motorola Micor head and speaker to mount beneath the glove box door...just like Starsky's car.
Also, a cool novelty to display on your dashboard at car shows is a replica Bay City PD badge which you can design and order from Galls, Inc. .

Something else that would be cool for the purists - locating the correct style shoulder holsters and outfitting them with toy guns or BB gun look-alikes. Imagine them hanging from coat-hooks above the backseat. Remember, Starsky's holster was left-handed and Hutch's was right-handed. Start watching your DVDs for the colors.
A suggestion for the pistols... From 1986 - 1987, Daisy recognized that a market existed for "Paramilitary Replicas." Various replicas were imported from Japan and Daisy started selling them in 1986. Softair Daisy Model 09(top) for Starsky and Softair Daisy Model 04(bottom) for Hutch are practically dead ringers. The Softair replicas originally used plastic BBs.
Outcries over children safety ("You'll put your eye out!") soon ended the sales and Daisy stopped selling the Softair guns in 1987. You'll have to watch the internet auction houses, second hand stores, Goodwill, etc., to locate these rare babies. Okay you Forty-somethings, now that you have bought one of those box perms and "afro-ed" what little hair you have left to questionably look like Starsky, you will need a pair of Adidas shoes.
Briefly re-released during the 2004 movie hype, these royal blue and white striped shoes are no longer in production. Look for the Adidas SL-72 or SL-76 in your size on eBay .
