Update- Not a big deal though.
Last week I went to got and get my tires rotated and balanced because I have been feeling a slight vibration from the rear. It had been about 5 years since I got the Potenza RE711 and so I thought it was about time that they get checked.
To my surpise, the guy at the tire shop told be that one of the tires had warped due to extreme heat. I didn't quite understand how Z-rated tires could warp with just moderate driving, but seeing the tires wobble and flutter on the balancing machine explained the vibration, and convinced me that it was about time to get a set of new ones.
I liked the RE711's, but I thought it'd be nice to try something new. Maybe a set of Azenis, or Potenza S03's. I then came across a forum with a bunch of Integra owners in Japan. ALL of them unanimously agreed that the Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R's were the current best on the market. At $900 a set, they were actually cheaper than the 711's but said to be superior in every way.
So for me it was a no brainer decsion, I decided to go for the RE-01R's.
When I ordered the tires, the shop told me that they didn't have the size I needed and that it needed to be special ordered. Apparently only two cars in the world use the 215/45 16" size: The Integra Type R and the NSX (front wheels), so they're pretty unusual.
After waiting about 5 days, they finally came in and I immedialy went back to the shop to have them mounted. They were a bit heavier than the RE711's and the side walls were extremely stiff. With my RE711's, I could squeeze the walls and there would be some elasticity, but with the RE-01R's, it fet like solid rubber.
The tread design looked identical to the RE01, RE010, and the RE711's so I was a bit suspicious that maybe these are all the same tire with different badging.
After the tires were mounted (which took an hour with 3 people working on them -apparent these tires aren't easy to mount) I drove my car out of the shop and felt an immediate difference! A night and day different. The RE-01R's are amazing! I took it up to 135km/hr on the expressway around the bends and the tires barely made a peep. This biggest difference was the steering response. The steering feel very heavy now as if I didn't have any power steering at all, but the steering is VERY precise now. I now understand what those drivers meant in the Best Motoring videos when they say, "the car goes wherever I point it", because that's exactly what it does.
Anyways, here are some unflattering pics of the tires on my car.
