In November, 2003 I started my re-wiring project. The goals were:
1) move all fuses and relays to the passenger footwell
2) move all switches to the center of the dash
3) remove the heater fan and heater core
4) remove the steering lock, ignition switch, and combo switches
5) remove all excess and unneeded wiring from the car
6) have ZERO wires going through the driver side firewall
7) install a keyless ignition system

6 months later I am 99% complete. Here are a few snapshots (I'll update the page at a later time). The blue Miata is my wife's 91 for comparison.

The horn has been moved to the firewall. Note that the main fuse box is no longer under the hood. It is now under the dash:

The relays have been moved into the cabin and the diagnostic connector has been removed:

Notice the huge bundle of wires on a stock Miata going through the firewall on the driver side:

Note the main fusebox and igniter are under the dash now. Also, the link ecu map sensor (normally the plug for the AFM) is by the ecu. This stock harness is about 10 feet long (now less than 1 foot):

What 15.25 pounds of wires looks like. The picture doesn't do it justice - this is a huge pile. Note the small orange spec at the top and bottom of the picture. Those are some of the big Air Bag connectors:

Great work on your Miata. It's very interesting to see what all is hiding under that dash. If I ever find another Miata around for a good price, I'd love to put it on a diet like yours. Keep up the good work, and 2 thumbs up on your diet yourself. :)

Hey Bob, you know I'm just messin' with you. By the way, their seems to be a real lack of comments in this guestbook. :)

All I have to say is that is one nasty looking spark plug and that weight loss on June 4 is a little suspicious looking. Are you sure your not sucking it in? No fair cheating. Brett Edward Walters(Owner of a 2003 Chevy Tahoe)
