I had a lot of fun with that... I had to finish off the old tires to replace with the new ones. I had quite a smoke show going.

American Muscle... what more can I say? GTO, Firebird/Camaro, Charger, Mustang, Corvette, Cuda, Viper... There's no replacement for displacement. They probably won't beat you from 0-60, but you can bet your ass they'll beat you from 60-100+.

I've replaced the rear speakers again and this time with Pioneers. It sounds MUCH better!

sdm1234's 1978 Pontiac Trans Am

In case you didn't read the title, this is my 1978 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am with me standing next to it.
I'm calling it by the full name for those of you who do not know what the real name is. I just call it the '78. It is basically all stock except for a few minor things I have done to it. The engine is all stock, original interior except for the carpet and headliner, and original paint/decals.

This specific model is very special because it was set up from the factory for SCCA Racing events. This means, the suspension was factory set VERY tight with larger anti-sway bars, and the chassis was dropped. Actually, it was dropped 2 inches. Even the seat mounts were lowered by 3/4 of an inch! It's like sitting in a hole. My Father discovered this by decoding the GM RPO codes and there was one he couldn't find ANYWHERE. So, he called Pontiac and they told him it was a special SCCA-ready vehicle.

This car was bought for $2,000 and was in bad condition. My Father and I worked very hard restoring the interior and drivetrain to keep it as OEM as possible. The paint and decals are in decent condition and I'll wait until it's completely shot before any body work is done. The only thing that is not OEM is the radio and speakers. However, we bought a Custom Autosound Player which fits into the factory holes, so no cutting was required!

Each page is dedicated to specific areas of the car with a good amount of information pertaining to it. Sign the guestbook and let me know what you thought of my car!

I love this this Trans Am, you don't see the blue ones alot. Camaro91boy, you would be correct that the 400 is the biggest small block that Chevrolet made, but 400 is the smallest big block Pontiac made. 5 stars on this beauty.

great car and all but i hate to break it to you but a 400ci engine is not a big block it is the biggest small block made the ci may be bigger than a 396 but the flow, power and torque, is unmatched.

Very nice car you have there. I'm very curious as to the code that says it has a SCCA option. I'm very knowledgeable in 2nd generation Trans Am's and have never heard of the SCCA option. Do you have the original build sheet showing it? What is the code? If you could add a picture of the build sheet then that would clear up the mystery of this car of yours.
