After an abscence of several months, the page on this car is returning.
This is my 1974 Dodge Monaco. The guy I bought it from pulled it out of a junkyard because it was scheduled to be crushed. It has a Big Block 400ci 4bbl engine with a 727 Torqueflite tranny and freeway cruising gears of 2.73. She wears 235/75/15 shoes which are kinda large, but it takes a lot of air to support 4400lbs (empty). I drove to a truck stop and used the scales where it tipped them at 4360 no spare tire, almost no gas in the tank. Fill her up, put 3 people in the car, and she's 5000lbs worth of momentum on the highway.
I bought the car in Reno for very little. It was a bargin. The guy was practically giving it away. I then brought her home to California. She's a 49 state Federal car, but since 1975 and older vehicles are smog exempt in CA, it no longer matters. The car is 98% stock. That includes the original alternator that it is still running on with a date code of 1973. The roof was covered with old vinyl top glue and crud when I got it. For a quick fix, I sanded off the glue and sealed the top with some semi-gloss black paint. I hate vinyl tops. I'll probably just paint the roof the same gold as the bottom.
This car had a VERY small part in the movie (not tv show) Starsky and Hutch that came out this year. See the next page for more info

Hello Max,
What a great Monaco - 5 stars! It's cool that it has a little film career:-) There is nothing better than the big c bodies to go cruising in!
Take care,
Jeff
