This is my toy, it's a '68 Mustang Coupe, I bought it 12/31/00 for $3K, it needed clutch work and the front end rebuilt. It's an original 302 4bbl, 4spd. car. I got it home and pretty much tore it down. Six months later it was back on the road. I replaced all the front and rear suspension, it has 620# springs up front with a 1 1/8" swaybar, and 5 leaf reverse eye springs in back. I modified the front A frames and lowered the mounting points 2". This mod with the springs lowered the car about an 1 1/2" from stock. I want to change the upper and lower A-frames and A-frame brace to Total Control's tubular pieces, they are way cool.

I converted the front brakes to discs and put new KYB shocks on all four corners and replaced all of the bushings and spring mounts with polyurethane ones. I also installed a chrome shock tower brace and monte carlo bar. The car handles pretty nice and I plan on road racing it after I change the tranny.

The motor is pretty fresh so I haven't done a whole lot to it yet. I upgaded to a Pertronix ignition and coil with MSD wires. I moved the battery to the trunk and replaced the inner fenderwells and the radiator bulkhead with aluminum pieces.

Since then I have replaced the stock gauges with Autometer Pro Comp gauges and made a console for more gauges and the controls for the Southwest Air A/C system I picked up. It's nice to have the cool A/C on those hot summer afternoons. I also upgraded the shifter to a Hurst Super Shifter III, and added the Total Control Products aluminum pedal covers.

This past spring I upgraded the cooling system, it now has the largest aluminum radiator I could fit between the frame rails and a Weiand aluminum water pump. All of the heater hoses and fuel line are steel braided too. The wheels are American Racing Torque Thrust II's, 16x7 front & 16x8 rear with 225/50 & 245/50 tires. They look really nice.

I have recently purchased a 9" Ford rearend with 3.89 posi center section and a new Stainless Steel disc brake conversion. I also have a Tremec 3550 5 spd., clutch and 3" driveshaft waiting to be put in. I just installed a stainless radiator overflow tank and have a Perma-Cool electric fan to help with the cooling. I also picked up a Weiand X-celarator manifold too.

Plans now are for twin turbo's on the 302 that's in the car now. I have already moved the A/C compressor and alternator to allow room for them. I installed a 650 Holley DP, and a Holley high volume mechanical fuel pump that are modified to work under boost. After I get the turbo system ironed out on the 302 I plan to build a new 331 or 347 specifically to work with the turbo's so I can run more boost. When all is said and done I am hoping to have around 600 HP on tap.

As far as the cosmetics go the plan is to install a 5" cowl hood to make room for the water/air intercooler that will sit on top of the carb. I also want to add 3" Shelby style flares on all four corners, Shelby side scoops, front end and rear spoiler. After the flares are in I want to upgrade the wheels to 17x8's up front and 17x10's out back with the widest tires I can fit. The 17" wheels will allow room for larger front discs down the road too(if I decide I like road racing). I really like the color blue the car is now, gets lots of compliments. So I want to repaint it the same color again after the bodywork is finished and might add some Shelby stripes, either silver or white.

I want to upgrade the interior, rollbar, new racing buckets, carpet, that kind of stuff, but that's way down on the list. I eventually want to road race the car, do some drag racing and maybe even try one of the top speed races they do over in Nevada some day. I have also discovered I like sitting at car shows, even won a first for "Daily Driver" and a second in the "Under Construction" class last year. But for now I am having a blast driving it and upgrading things as fast as I can. Special thanks to Andy and the gang at American Mustang in Sacramento for a lot of the parts and tons of advice. And also to my high school buddy Bill for all of his advice on the upcoming turbocharger installation, he has a wild twin turbo'd '66 Fastback. Thanks for stopping by. I'll be adding new pictures as things progress, so come back soon.

See Ya,
John

This is how the car looked the spring of '02. I had just finished getting the air conditioning hoses made and didn't have the grill back in yet.

The left shot you can see the Autometer gauges, tach and TCP pedal covers. On the right is the center console I made and the Hurst Super Shifter III. The red lever is the reverse lock-out.

These pictures are after I added the aluminum radiator. On the drivers side, you can see the aluminum water pump, monte carlo bar and shock tower brace. The passenger side shot shows some of the steel braided hoses and the polished compressor for the A/C. The A/C compressor and alternator on the other side are mounted low to make room for the future turbo's.
