After the last 3800 deal fell through, I finally decided to go ahead and do the extra hacking to make a V8 fit.
I thought about using a Chevy V8, but I didnt have a good 4-speed with married t-case. What I did have though, was a 318 that was supposed to go in my 66 Power Wagon. -which I had recently found that I couldnt get a title for. Also, I had previously traded a good TF727 for a NP435/208 combo.
So I got busy...

First was the tranny and t-case

Wouldnt come out without removing the grille or bellhousing

Engine sitting in front of Patrol

Had to make some mods to make it fit width wise...

Had to cut down the engine block mounts

Frame mounts had to be moved too

Here you can see how close they are to the block

This is the Dodge Power Wagon hydraulic bellhousing

My gasket overhaul kit finally came in. I started tearing down the 318 on the stand. When I pulled the heads off, water poured out and 3 of the 8 cylinders were seized up with rust.
So, remember the 82 Dodge I got in trade for my S-10 Blazer?

...Well, it got gutted!

First test fit:

I guess I will just have to make a new crossmember... Maybe a removable one that will go right under the oil pan to attatch the other end of my future skid plate to...

All settled in...

Not sure what the shifter came off of, but with a little bit of messin around, I got it to work!

Cut about 1" off of the passenger side radiator support, and recessed it into the fascia/grille shell. First test fit with a large electric fan:

The water pump pulley wanted to collide with the motor.
I tried several other large electric fans, and nothing would work.
I tried using the clutch fan, but it was keeping the grille shell/rad support from going back into the stock location. That wouldnt work either... damn. The second thought was to cut the lower half of the grille off and move the grille so that it was flush with the front edge of the hood. I really didnt want to do this. I wanted the Patrol to represent other Patrols, and the classic look of the front-end is something I dont want to alter unless I have to.
I told my 4-wheelin buddy of my problem, and he told me to look in his e-fan stash to see if there was something low profile enough. What I found was two small fans off of a FWD 80's model Toyota. I trimmed them to fit.

Then I fit the radiator back into the grille shell

Then test-fit it.

EXACTLY what I was looking for!!
