GoDogGo's 2001 Mazda Miata MX-5
Project Miata: Emerald Green Mica, base model, stripped
The initial goal in 2010 was to build a pure, lightweight handling machine for autocross and occasional track days, keeping it just usable enough for a Saturday morning coffee run. The Flyin' Miata suspension turned out to be far less than I'd hoped (softer than expected spring rates which I've since learned about) but ideal for real-world speed: It flies over less-than-racetrack smooth tarmac. That virtue has grown on me so the objective has been tweaked toward coffee runs and weekend use (for now). It's a Mulholland regular but can still be used any day of the week.
Much still to do but details on the build so far are below.
Up on Mulholland Highway.

New Blackbird Fabworx roll bar.
I'll probably be upgrading to their six-point version (with door bars) eventually but the four-point X-braced protection keeps it safe and weekday-usable for now. The crafstmanship on this thing is pretty amazing. Powdercoat is a medium gunmetal metallic.

Ready for Saturday morning...

...Or Sunday morning.

After installing the Flyin' Miata suspension (shocks, springs, sways). Up on Latigo Canyon Road.

I was expecting a more aggressive spring rate (which I've since learned about) and will have to upgrade. But as you can see, our roads aren't perfect so the compliance and suspension travel is excellent. I'm very happy with it for now.

Found some comfy tan leather seats out of an '02: Works nicely on the black interior, better than the tan interior in my opinion. This'll do until I find some Lotus Elise/Exige seats to create more head/helmet room. Message me if you're selling some!

The Build, To Date:
Flyin' Miata Stage 2 suspension (coils & sways), 949 Racing adjustable sway links, 949 Racing 6UL wheels, Hankook RS-3 225/45-15's, Roadstersport RS exhaust, cold side intake, NGK plugs, Magnecore wires, Hawk brakes and a Blackbird Fabworx GT3 roll bar.
Next Up:
Elise/Exige seats and custom mounts, Flyin' Miata frame rails & weight reduction (stereo, AC, top, console & various unnecessaries are coming out). A more aggressive coilover will precede any meaningful conversion to track use but, if it remains a street car, an MP62 supercharger will come first.
