In early January of 2012 I sold the complete engine/trans package and used the money to buy a 1992 Nissan Skyline front clip. This is an RB20DET, a 2.0 liter turbocharged straight six, rated at 215 HP, with a 5 speed trans. The clip came with everything from the steering wheel, instruments and controls to the front bumper, radiator, intercooler etc. It was serviced with oil, coolant, AC and clutch fluid. We hooked up a battery and it started right up, idled smoothly and everything seemed to work, even the AC. We pulled the engine and trans out of the clip, cleaned them up and fitted them into the RX-7. We deleted the AC and power steering. My fabricator/welder, Sean O'Brien, modified the engine crossmember to fit behind the stock Skyline oil pan (look closely at the photo below). The Skyline engine mount on the left side bolted to the RX-7 mount pad, the right one required some modification. We trimmed the radiator core support as shown and installed the Skyline radiator. Sean fabricated a custom transmission mount. The shifter is in exactly the right position, and the RX-7 speedo cable screwed right into the trans. The aluminum driveshaft was fabricated by Shaftmasters.
