The car pretty much stayed like this for a while, but after months of driving it... I got that urge to just start upgrading it. I started looking at the basic stuff first, aftermarket headlights, taillights, even clear lenses for the bumper and the 3rd brake light. Before those parts even came in, I just happened to glance at body kits. The price for a complete body kit not painted was like $600 including shipping! I thought to myself, really? Why are parts so cheap... Before I could think, I clicked the "Buy it now" button! So I ordered a durflex bodykit for $600. Since I ordered the body kit, I just had to buy aftermarket fenders too. $80 later, they were ordered. Now my mind was spinning... I started thinking, well if i'm going to make my car look fast, i might as well make it sound fast. I ordered brand new $75.00 headers, and topped it all off with a dual exhaust kit that was about $150.As the items came in the mail, I started stacking the boxes in the basement. I wanted to wait for all the items to come in, and do the mods all at once. Then one beautiful day, it was raining like there was no tomorrow... Some of the roads started flooding. I was on my way back from work, and I was on a straightaway. All of a sudden the road dipped and revealed a path of water. I tried to go around but it was too late, my cold air intake was too low causing water to get sucked up into the engine. The car started to become sluggish, but then it acted normal. As I reached a red light a few blocks away, I heard a pop! Then the check engine light came on. When I finally got a chance to try and diagnose the problem, turns out I had a misfire in cylinder 1. I must've bent a rod or piston, because that cylinder wasn't holding pressure anymore. The car was still drivable, but it was annoying looking at a check engine light. It had to be a minor bend or something, because the car still ran great believe it or not.To me, I didn't want to supe up this car anymore. I lost my will to do anything. In the basement, I had halo headlights, clear bumper lenses, LED taillights, a new hood, new fenders, a new bodykit, headers, and even exhaust! Then I thought about it long and hard... What should I do? I spent all this money, and now it's not even worth putting it on the car. I decided, you know what... this car was nothing but bad luck, i'm just going to sell it as is. I put it on the internet, and sold it for $2000.00 as is.I took that money, and put it towards a new Neon. This time I went looking for a Neon that was fully loaded... I got a Black 2005 Neon SXT with about 36K miles. I paid a total of $5,000 for this one. How did I end up paying a thousand dollars more for a car that was 2 years newer, with about 70k miles less?
