cowboy5133's 1955 Jeep CJ5

This is kind of an old picture but here it is anyway. This is my CJ-5. I kept it pretty much stock appearing except for the 6" lift and diamond plate.

Here's my engine. It's a fully race-built Chevy 283 V8. It's bored .030 over, steel crank, hypereutectic pistons, lightened rods, shaved heads, Edelbrock Air Gap intake and 600CFM carb, Accel billet distributor, K&N, and the list goes on. It's backed with a Muncie SM-465 "Granny" 4 speed transmission and the original Dana 18 transfer case. It still has the original axles with 4.11 gears. The 4 wheel drive is fully functional and gets put to good use semi-regularly :-)

Very basic interior. I just wish it had more leg room!

This pic is from when I was restoring it back in '97

UPDATE:
My front bumper wasn't looking so good anymore so I decide to build a new one. It's a piece of 4" channel steel. If you're familiar with channel, you know it has the taper on the inside of the legs. This required me to put it on the milling machine and mill the taper out of the backside where it goes over the framerails so it would fit on properly. I took it over to the bandsaw and cut the angles on the ends of the channel. Then I cut 2 pieces of 1x2 solid stock, milled 45 degree angles off 2 of the corners and drilled a 7/8" hole in them. I then welded them on to the channel to use as tow hooks with shackles. I primed and painted it and bolted it on with 6, 1/2" grade 8 bolts. It won't fall off..lol. Then I mounted my KC's back on. The pics aren't the best, but it gives the general idea.

I also fabbed up new heavier (and taller) spring shackles and a new skid plate while I was at it. No pics of those yet.

Nice Jeep, you still running that shitty Ross box steering or did you upgrade to a manual saginaw box? I'm about to upgrade it in my M38A1 which is VERY similar to your early 5. Check her out. Alex
