Here is some useful information I found in the 2000 NISSAN Maxima Service Manual.
Recommended Fluids and Lubricants
ENGINE - US Measure - Changing Instructions
With oil filter change - 4-1/4qt
Without oil filter change - 3-7/8qt
Dry engine (engine overhaul)- 5-1/8qt
NISSAN's reccomendation
SAE 5W-30 viscosity oil is preferred for all temperatures. SAE 10W-30 and 10W-40 viscosity oil may be used if the ambient temperature is above -18?C(0?F).
What this means.
5W-30 is preferred for colder climates especially up north. The manual shows a chart of an arrow of the 5W-30 going below -20?F. For places like Florida and southern states where the temp never goes below 0?F 10W-30 is ok.
MANUAL TRANSMISSION - Changing Instructions
RS5F50A - 4.5 -4.8 liters
RS5F50V - 4.3 -4.5 liters
API GL-4, Viscosity SAE 80W-90 only.(Applies to both)
I use REDLINE MT-90
