My Car is a 1989 Lebaron GTS. To see pics of my 1992 Lebaron GTC convertible go to www.lebarongtc.homestead.com
I purchased this car in September of 2003 from Travis who started this site and provided some of the pictures.
Built on December 16, 1988 in Sterling Heights Michigan it is one of the last "H" bodies built by Chrysler. According to the info I have received from Chrysler Customer Service there were 3 versions of the Chrysler H body built in 1989: Highline, Premium and GTS. Unlike the previous model years (1985-1988) the GTS was an option package for the H body Lebaron that added the following standard features:
Leather wrapped steering wheel
Power windows and door locks
Air Conditioning (US cars, optional on CA)
15" Aluminum wheels with gold centers with high performance tires
Turbo II engine with 555 transaxle (Getrag gearset)with 3.85 final drive ratio (no cost option was the TI/413 auto)
Larger front sway bar
Of the 906 GTS's made in '89 only 268 were built with the TII/555 engine/transmission combination. My car also received the following options:
Quartz cloth interior
Infinity II stereo (AM/FM/Tape Stereo with 5 band EQ)
ASC Power sunroof
Rear washer/wiper which deleted the standard driving lights
When I purchased the car it had been parked for about 2 years after the oil pump took a vacation and spun a rod bearing. When the car was parked it had about 185,000 miles on it. When I dropped the pan rod bearing #2 was about as thick as a piece of construction paper and was wrapped around the rod journal on the crank. I decided at that time to do a total rebuild of the engine and make some enhancements while it was apart. Here is a list of the engine specs and modifications:
Stock 89 common block overbored .020 inches or .5 MM
Stock TII connecting rods resized with ARP rod bolts
.020 " over Mahle pistons for 2.5 conversion
2.5 cast crank with .010 mains and rods
ARP Main studs and Headbolts
Stock oversize bearings
782 crossdrilled head (original to car) with 3 angle valve job and clean up of ports
89 TII roller cam
TII intake and exhaust manifolds
Upgraded the turbo to a Turbonetics Super60 with the .63 AR exhaust housing
slightly ported 2.5" swing valve
full 3" mandrel bent exhaust with Warlock muffler mounted in stock location
I have also installed all new brake lines with Stainless Steel braided flex lines from www.fwdperformance.com to go along with the rear disc brake conversion. All rear brake parts and the proportioning valve are from a 91 Dodge Spirit ES and were a direct bolt on. I have also installed new ebrake cables (for the 91 ES also) since the originals on the car were bad after 15 years of Ohio winters. AT this time the car also wears a set of silver lace wheels from an 89 Plymouth Acclaim LX in place of the Gold factory Lace wheels. When I purchased the car the previous owner painted them black because he did not like the gold.
Inside the car I have added a gray leather Grant Corsa GT steering wheel. My final interior mod will be a trio of Autometer Carbon Fiber faced gauges (Boost, EGT and Air/Fuel ratio) mounted in the console where the trip computer would be located. My car does not have the trip computer.
Here is a pic of the Grant wheel;

Here is the engine waiting to be installed, notice the turbo!
The picture below is of the engine back in the car.
