Developed rod knock on the way back from Florida, July 2nd, 2010. It made it all the way to Mt. Myers, then Key West and back, but died near Lake City, FL. Rod cap came off, bounced all over, broke some stuff. We put a new engine in it, but it didn't run good. We finally sold it on September 2nd, 2011 for $850, as part of a $1100 package deal with another 1965 Corvair Monza my dad bought for $250 a month or so ago.-------------------------------------------------------------I left at 4am on April 12, 2010 to get this car, along with my dad. We drove 9 hours to Dallastown, Pennsylvania to pick it up, and got there around 1:30pm. For the most part, the car was what we expected, but the tires were not new, not even anywhere near new, in fact, the front ones were cracked all along the outer part of the tread... It was also a quart and a half low on transmission fulid and oil... The timing was off by around 12 degrees, and it had a gas leak, which apparently wasn't there before... We paid $1400 for it, probably should have paid less because of the tires, but oh well...Did an oil change in the Advance Auto parking lot, and fixed the timing, made sure all the fluid levels were good, and left for home. We stopped 3 blocks later when the right front wheel locked up as a braked a bit hard. We took the wheel off, after un-seizing it from the drum, but there wasn't really much we could do, so the brakes pulled toward the left the whole way home. I got used to it pretty quick, though.I got an average of 22.5mpg on the way back, driving 65mph max, except for the hills where I coasted up to 70, and in the annoying construction, which seemed to be everywhere, where I was stuck going only 45... Ugh. Had no problem staying awake though, and we made it home by 2:30am... Went to bed at 3am after being awake for 23 hours straight, and spending 15 of it driving, and 3 as a passenger.
