This is the car I owned for 22 years before I bought the Firebird. It was a very rusty northern car which ironically was delivered from Global BMW in Atlanta to it's first owner in the spring of 1972. I did extensive body repairs for several years before having the Avus Blue paint applied in 1994. I replaced the original 3.0 liter block with a 3.5 liter from a 1985 535i and the transmission was changed from the original 4-speed to a 5-speed from a 733i. I added the dual downdraft Webers, Suspension Techniques springs, Bilsteins, and an original Alpina fiberglass front spoiler with E65 fog lights in the brake ducts. These cars were originally equipped with four wheel independant suspension and 4-wheel power disc brakes and were far ahead of their competitors in the early '70s.I really miss this car. I could hammer this thing unmercilessly every day and it took it in stride. The perfectly balanced bullit-proof engine was a joy to behold at redline. It made the most beautiful howl of joy that could be appreciated best with the twin two barrels wide open! 220 hp in a car that weighs about 3000lbs is a blast and was a real early Autobahn hotrod. I saw 136mph in this car and it was as solid as a rock.
