1986 Audi 4000 S4K V8 (NASA GTS4)
This 1986 Audi 4000 ended its regular life in 1987 when it was converted to a rally car by 4 Star motorsports in Canada. It was campaigned on and off until the mid 90's at which time it weent to Force 5 Audi specialists and sat in their yard for a few years. It was rescued from a near death experience by a friend of mine who started work on a 5cyl turbo swap. I picked it up in April 2009 and began what was supposed to be a quick conversion to V8 powered track car. Once thing led to another and a year later it is about to be finished.
The car is now a ground up build including a new floor and firewall, new chromoly cage and tubular front end support. The motor and transmission was rescued from a wrecked 2005 S4. Suspension and steering is all custom built, for initial shakedown it is running 'Blowstiens' shocks but they will get swapped out for Koni double adjustable race shocks once the geometry is proved to work.
Exhaust is custom end to end, Cooling system is the same. Motor will be managed with a VEMS ecu which will be used to control the VT and variable length intake tract as well. Anticipated power outputs are in the 320AWHP area. 340TQ
Driveline is a bit of a Frankenstien Audi parts bin design. Transmission is S4 Getrag 6 spd( 60% R/ 40%F split), Flywheel is 034 Motorsport Aluminum, Clutch is twin plate Tilton. Rear Diff is V8Q torsen (1992) in a 5KTQ housing wiht 90Q output shafts (for now, may get the S4 diff with Quaffe LSD)
Brakes: Up front are Alcon Type B's on 13.5" rotors, rear are 12.5" with S4 calipers.
Measured weight is approx 2400lbs.
Wheels are Vette 17" with 275/40/17's Should be a whole lot of fun. Anticipated completion date = mid april 2010.
