FINALLY A FUEL INJECTED CHEVETTE!!!!!!!!!! I was going to ask why you didn't put the fuel rail across the bottom of the intake but now I remember that there is a huge bulge by the coolant passage. That is still a first for a Chevette, and I would love If you would be able to write a how-to section for ACO. Thanks in advance if you could. I'm trying to get as much vette info as possible.I would like to welcome you to AmericanChevette Online, My new site that runs around all things Chevette. I have forums, Tech Articles that are always a work in progress. and a few other things(americanchevette.webs.com)See ya around ~Will

This was a car I built for a gas mileage contest. It is a original 1.6l engine with a 84' swirl port head (great for fuel mileage bad for hp) It is port fuel injected and turbo charged. I used a Haltech engine EX6 management system to control the fuel injection and spark events. The hardest part of this installation was the fuel rails and injector placement due to the #1 intake runner being blocked by the coolant passage. I used an MSD stand alone injector kit for #1 and a straight rail for the rest. A Toyota corolla fuel rail and regulator that has a 1# rise for 1# of boost. I machined and mounted a 2.5 Chrysler distributor to the stock distributor bottom and made a custom shaft to run the rotor and hall effect switch for accurate crank sensing. The injectors are 24pph mustang. A Hyundai throttle body, G.M. igniter, G.M. two bar map sensor, G.M. coolant temp and air temp sensor, Toyota 4 wire oxygen sensor and Garret t3 turbo from a thunderbird Turbo coupe where used. The cast iron manifold was from SPA in Brazil $500 (ouch, but good fitment)With allot of tuning this car runs great. It starts in any weather and gets over 40 mpg so far. When I program the oxygen sensor correction and E.G.R. maps it should get 46-49 mpg my goal is 50mpg at 60mph cruise. With a lower (numerical) gear ratio in the rear 3.36 from 3.62 it can happen. This car starts and runs like a new Honda and has well over 110 rwhp. This was a very difficult project over $5000 and 200 hours. The final result was beyond my expectations. Many people do not use the '82 and up swirl port head due to power limitations. This head configuration does exactly what the engineers wanted. More low end torque and velocity for good gas mileage. With careful porting (almost none on the intake side and tons of bowl work) it works great with a turbo. The Turbo has a 49 A/R and has 5# of boost @ 2300 rpms!!. I only run 8 lbs of boost to save gas. The contest rules require 90 rwhp so 9 lbs is more than enough.
