After months of torturous research, arduous dealmaking and a 1500+ mile drive from Florida to New York, I finally got my hands on a beautiful 1995 Mazda Miata in Laguna Blue with PEP and Leather Package! I originally had my heart set on a 97' M Edition with the nice Marina Green Mica Paint and Tan interior/top combo but after a similar deal fell through, I jumped at this ultra rare Laguna Blue with Leather Package. Only 122 of these were made making this car much more rare then any special or M Edition ever produced! The car has 75K Miles and the exhaust and gauges have been replaced.

As soon as I got the car home I immediately did an engine flush and oil change and flushed and replaced the coolant.

I have just ordered some NGK Blue Spark Plug Wires and a replacement OEM Air Filter as well. The timing belt, water pump and ignition coils were all recently replaced.

I replaced the shift knob with an OEM Wood 5 Speed Shifter from Nardi. I've ordered a Tan Shift Boot from Brainstorm as well. The car came with a crappy aftermarket Pioneer Stereo. I was going to install the factory in dahs 6 disc changer head unit that was taken out of a 2003 Mazda Protege but I discovered that the factory wiring harness had been ripped out and the aftermarket unit had been hardwired into the factory wires. So I'm going to take a Pioneer Premier DEH-P750MP that I had an install that.

I'm also going to immediately replace the cheap tires that are currently on the car and am looking at possibly getting new 15" rim replacements as well.

The shocks are about done and need to also be replaced. I don't want something with too harsh a ride so I'm thinking KYB GR-2 or Tokico HP Shocks.

UPDATE

4/25/05: Oil Change, Coolant Flush
4/28/05: Replaced wires NGK Blues, stock air filter, factory oil dipstick
5/01/05: Replaced lower and upper rubber shift boots, evacuated and refilled turret oil with Mobil 1 Synthetic 75W/90, Replaced aftermarket stereo that came with the vehicle with Pioneer Premier DEHP-P750 in stock location. Factory wiring harness had been spliced so this was a tedious job.

NOTES: I originally ordered an OEM Nardi Shift Knob but returned it. It came to me shipped with a dent in the back but after trying it out a couple days I decided that although it looked fantastic, the shape of the knob left shift feel lacking. I contacted the "Knobmeister" and ordered a Pearl Magnum Vodoo Shift knob and custom black visorblanks with "Miata" logo and "Laguna Blue" carved into it. Also ordered a tan shift boot from http://www.redlinegoods.com. I hear great things about their products.

I noticed clanging from the back of my car and noticed that the PO had installed a cheap aftermarket battery and hadn't even bothered to screw it down to the mount. I immediately ordered a replacement battery from Westco.

I decided to retire the 94M Polished Wheels and use them as dedicated Winter Wheels. I have been agonizing the last two weeks over a wheel/tire upgrade package. At this point I am still in a dilemma about 15" vs. 16" and Tires. At one point I was going with the Kosei K1 Racers with Bridgestone RE750s 195/50/15 but now I'm wondering if I should go at least 205/50/15. I really like the Pirelli Nero Zero (M+S) but it's only available in 16" and I'm wondering if a 16" rim is not in order. Update to come once I've reached a decision.

I've decided to upgrade my shocks with KYB AGX Shocks. I like the ability to change shock settings on the fly. I'm wondering whether I should replace my springs at the same time with some Tien S-Tech Springs or just keep the stock springs? Anyone have any experience with the Tien? I'm not looking to race with the car but I just want the best suspension set up possible.

UPDATE
Decided on 16" wheels due to increased width and stiffer sidewall as well as nice looks. Went with an Enkei RS5. Agonizing over tires but have narrowed it down to either the Goodyear F1 GS-D3 or Pirelli Zero Nero M&S in 205/45/16.

Going ahead with purchase of KYB AGX Shocks as well.

5/26/05: Decided on the Pirelli Zero Neros. Just had them mounted today on the 16" Enkei RS5s. Wheels have an offset of 40 and just fit the fenders perfectly. I can't wait to take a spin on them!

2/15/06: It's been virtually a year since I've updated this page at all! I've actually been able to drive the car here and there, even with the top down due to the relatively mild winter we've been having in NY this year. I really like the stock look of the car with the wheel upgrades. I may look into swapping the exhaust as well as putting the original tan top back on. Here are some pictures of the car as it is today:

Thanks for popping by and saying hi! I had 16s on the rear and 15s on the front, but the way the Rs5s are designed, they look like 16s and 17s. Anyhow, have retired those rims and have gone for Te37s!

Nice ride! Welcome to the Laguna world. I wish I could enjoy some of that sun! Weather here is horrible.
