Welcome to my Jeep's page! I finished the sound system this summer, and I'm pretty happy with how it has performed. My #1 concern was stealth and security, and I think I pulled it off pretty well. I replaced the stock Wrangler console with a Tuffy locking steel console with a stereo compartment. And, believe it or not, I was able to fit 2 amps, a pair of crossovers, and a Stinger circuit breaker into the main compartment! Here's a diagram of the system layout:

For the head unit, I'm using a Pioneer DEH-P5500MP CD/MP3 head, installed in the Tuffy console. I left the stock tape deck in the dash as a decoy, with only the power hooked up (so I can still use it as a clock).

For amps, I have 2 Blaupunkt PA-275 class-T digital models. I took them out of their plastic casings, allowing them to both (barely) fit in the console. I mounted them to painted MDF boards, which I Gorilla Glued to the walls of the console. These things are insane; I've run them for hours at a time with the top down and console lid closed, under the scorching Texas summer sun, and they've never overheaded or misbehaved.

One amp is bridged into a Bazooka RS608DVC bass tube in the back, which is hidden by a Steel Horse locking trunk lid. While this tube doesn't exactly rock the block, it puts out a suprisingly good amount of bass inside the car (which is all I care about) -- even with the top down. It gets a litte over 200w RMS from the amp. I chose the tube for its efficiency, and because I can just unstrap it and yank it out when I want to haul cargo.

The Bazooka is augmented by a pair of Aura Bass Shakers that I installed under the front seats. They're powered by the head unit.

The other Blaupunkt is hooked into a set of Soundstream SPL passive crossovers -- from a component set that had 2-ohm woofers. This allows me to run 2 sets of JBL woofers in parallel --some 5.25" GTO's in the rear soundbar, and some 4" GTi's on adapters in the front 4x6" locations. I (securely) mounted the GTi tweeters on the dash, aimed off-axis. The tweets are the only visible part of the system, and are (hopefully) pretty nondescript; I obscured the "JBL" logos with a little black paint.

The sound quality is honestly pretty decent, even with the fronts and rears wired together. The soundstage in a Jeep is fairly screwed no matter what you do, but I think having the only tweeters mounted up front where they are helps to straighten things out enough to get by.

I'd like to note that Stinger Speedwire cables were indispensible for hooking up all the stuff in the console to the factory speaker and power harnesses in the dash (and no, I don't work for Stinger).

For additional security, I've got a nice Viper 2-way alarm, a hood lock, a MasterLock steering wheel lock (highly recommend -- better and cheaper than "the Club"), and a few other little tricks up my sleeve.
