thundersparrow's 1987 Ford Thunderbird

JUL 15, 2003: Engine is out of the car and gone. Waiting on my headers and cam. I'm making a video documentary of the whole process too, so its gonna be fun!
---------------------------------
So this is broken car number two. 1987 Ford Thunderbird. Currently has a 3.8L V6. Well story goes like this: Radiator rusted a hole in it, car overheated, something broke. Probably killed a bearing or something, but needless to say it has a loud hollow knock.

But WHO CARES! I found a running 351 Windsor for $500. Also got a 9" disk rear end with 4.11 gears I might put in (damn low gear ratio, still unsure).

The 5.8L came out of a van, and is mated to a C-6. The 5.8 will keep its flywheel and TC and will mate nicely up to the AOD from my 3.8L. (Speaking of which, I have a C-6 for sale now). Unfortunately, my stock rear end doesn't have Posi, so thats why i need to swap a new rear end in.

Now the fun facts. :) This will be the ultimate sleeper! I am not doing ANY exterior mods beyond what is necessary. And the thing that will make my 351 Fox Bird unique....True duels, Y'd into a single out highflow muffler. hehehe, can't wait!

I don't think Ive ever seen a 351 on one of these. Make sure you upgrade the front end suspension. I know I had to for my swap. Can't wait to see the final product!

Better off to find an AOD out of a Stang gt, convert to floor shift, and enjoy driving it longer, cause that V6 trans won't last too long behind a Windsor!

You ought to bore that baby out 7 more ci, have Ranier-Lundy etched on the valve covers and paint it in Texaco-Havoline colors!
