You've made it this far, so it's time for a shameless plug.
If you're in the Mid-Atlantic area, then you need to check out the Chesapeake Area Roadsters, aka the CAR Miata club.
They're a great group of people with some awesome cars and knowledge. CAR is not the typical Miata club. They're the largest club in Maryland (with members in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Virginia, Connecticut, Alabama, Washington DC and even Hawaii), and they do a great deal of events such as autocrossing, cookouts, scenic drives, and our now-famous tech days. We even swapped out a member's engine at one of our tech days in August 2002.
Just click on the link above to check out the site and online forums. And you can see some of our members cars if you click on my "friends" list to the left of the page.
Here are some group pics from past CAR events (more at the CAR club site):

Who says Miatas aren't practical?? At a club tech day, we fit 9 people into one.

We also have several members who are active in autocross in the DC region, and are looking to be a dominant force for 2004. I even ran with them in CSP for a while.
