Here are some pics of the interior (albeit a bit dirty...) from summer 2003. I was going for the black/brushed aluminum look. Take special notice of the custom painted gauge panel and the JDM-style doorhandles, similar to what M2 was putting in the 1028 series a number of years ago.

In preparation for a set of MiataDesign gauge faces (see below), I painted the needles red, although I think the red needles look pretty cool with the stock gauge faces.

And here are the new gauges...
These were actually the very first set of stainless steel gauge faces that are now being made for Miatas by MiataDesign. They're not foil coated, vinyl, or anything like that. These are high-quality stainless steel, and look incredible in person.
The illumination was designed so that variations in color preference can be made. Basically, if you can dream it, they can pretty much reproduce it. You can also buy additional colors if you decide you want to change it later. (Since I was their first customer at the time, I was asked to help out with some last minute R&D work, so that's why mine are several different colors in these shots.)
They have a cool satin finish to them, and the needles reflect slightly off of the faces. I've also discovered that they get a really cool effect while driving at night. When you go under a streetlamp, you get a quick glimpse of silver and the light follows the grain of the metal, so it sweeps around the face. Cool stuff.
Here are the faces during the day..............and at night (lights off).

And turned on at night. The photos really don't do them justice!

Here's a few more day/night shots.

I later converted the gauge faces to all red illumination and added matching aluminum gauge rings and finished up the needles.

Here are some pics of the new MiataDesign HVAC panel, also in stainless steel to match the gauges. I also had this one done in red.

Now that I have the car back again, I need to re-do the interior. The previous owner added some custom Anime fabric and a few odds & ends. Some of it will stay, some of it will go. You can probably guess what was first to go....
