I had a bbq at my place with friends then we left here at 9pm to go to a bar at the airforce base where we work. our sober driver had just forked out $NZ17g for her '97 mitsi GSR about a month ago. The good lass, she waited till the girls in the back buckled up before she reversed down the drive (one of them wasnt going to!). we headed off and we were all in a pretty cheerful mood.
we came up to some lights at a T intersection. we wanted to turn right. the lights turned yellow as we came up to them, to close to stop so our driver went to make the turn.
i was the only one that saw him, from straight ahead a mazda sedan was speeding to make the lights, i reckon he was doing about 65kph. i dont know if he even braked but he hit us square in the B pillar on my side of the car. im never gonna take the piss out of the structure integrity of mitsi side intrusion bars again!!
the drivers airbag went off but i saw her hit it as it went off. it filled the car with a acrid smoke. she started shaking and crying but pulled hersef together and pulled the car over. she got out and my door didnt budge so followed her out and helped pull the two girls out of the back (and their hand bags too!). The girl sitting on the left twisted her ankle but could put wait on it.
i ran over to the other car to see if they were ok. it was a maori/ islander couple. the guy was driving... and he had A FRICKEN CAN OF WOODSTOCK (Bourbon RTD) IN HIS HAND!!
they were ok, the girl was shaken up and the front left of their car was punched in. he walked down the bank a lil bit into some bush i assumed to ditch the can.
the firefighters were there in minutes! i was amazed how quick they got there. the cops came too and took statements from the drivers. i didnt see them breath test him. im going to see what happened when i go into the station on monday night and make a statement if i can. i should have done it there and then but didnt
our driver was too emotional to use her phone so i called her bf and gave him directions and he was there in 5 mins. all three of them lit up ciggys so i ran across to the mobil on the corner and bought myself a mince and cheese pie. her bf took us into the base and the girls went to their barracks to shower and get changed meanwhile i was at the bar and told my flatmate what happened the good b'stard handed me two dbl bourbons. the girls came in 30 mins later and we lined up a couple of QF's each.
one of the girls and my flatmate reckon im cursed! she goes " so how many is this for you now?" "ummmm... including three of my own ive been on the scene of about 7 accidents...!" " Haha, no wonder you were so calm and collected, you're a veteran!"
the B pillar caught the brunt of it. it was stoved in good. the back door was bent in and buckled out at the rear edge. my door was just stoved in a bit, none of the windows broke. I was feeling a bit stiff on left side but except for that, i was fine. Other than that chicks ankle, the driver had her right hand in a splint from the air bag going off (really bruised), and the girl sitting behind the driver having sme bruising on her side, everyone was sweet!!
now for the pics!
