Ah crap! the worst has happened!

wet greasy roads + poor compound tyres + unfamiliarity/ inexperience with boost characteristics.

Forunately for me, as it was open road (100kph zone), I was stuck behind a slow-driven BMW so I was doing 40kph under the limit on exit out of the corner. It was my own dumb fault changing down going into the corner and putting the engine revs above 3,500rpm and into the turbos optimum operating range. as I accelerated out of the corner the wheels spun, I corrected the steering, foot off brakes and gas, it kept going round, then the rear tyres gripped, the front tyres sledged, and off the other side of the road I went and i braked before hitting the grass. Got wedged in a farm fence. The #8 fencing wire pinned both doors closed and I got out through my hatch :(

If that beemer wasnt there I could have been going alot faster... but then would I have changed down??

Luckily its not as bad as it looks. Most of the car bar the shell is fibreglass. I have to replace the drivers side front guard and the front spoiler. Due to the lack of funds and lack of GRP body pieces in NZ i'll have to give up on a one piece Carrera GT front bumper/ spoiler and use a separate 944 bumper and spoiler (read: 2 piece). Thankfully, nothing from the doors back was damaged except for some shallow scratches on the roof and a few on the wing mirrors.
I also need to replace the radiator and oilcooler which both got punctured. Other than that, the chassis needs a slight tweak for a minor twist, and I'll be getting 4 new tyres better suited to NZ roads.

I've stripped it down so its ready to go to the beaters in early Feb. After its all back together I'll be taking it to Taupo raceway to do some laps, test its suspension set up and test its limits- What I SHOULD have done from the start!!

update 18/4/04
My stepdad got a wof for his racing trailer and came picked up the car. This last week i did some shopping.
i priced a new grp front right guard and one piece front spoiler.

guard $450 + GST
spoiler $600 + GST

D:

the front spoiler tho is a proper racing intended one. it has no cut outs and mounts for the indicators/ lights >_<
instead i took my broken guard to the GRP Bay - a section at work- and theyre fixing it to like new for a doz heinekin ;) Savings = $450 + gst!!
Then i rang a p-car wrecker in Levin and got delivered on Wednesday a 944 bumper with all lights and indicators for $600 and an 924 turbo oil cooler for $250.00

i would have been happy buying an a/m oil cooler and getting enzed to put on the right fittings but couldnt be ar$ed sorting it out though it probably would have been cheaper.

my stepdad has a spare 924 radiator and 944 front spoiler from his old racing days

unforunately i'll have to make do with a 944 looking front. heres the difference:

the bumper is separate and theres driving lights too. the 924 cgt one piece will just have to wait to another day when i can afford it. i'll be going rangi stylez and driving around primered for a while! 8o

hopefully it will be back on the road in 2 wks!! i cant wait, im sick of driving this slow, pudgey, unbalanced, unemotional, uninspiring and uncommunicative corona.
NB: all prices in NZ dollars

update 27/06/04
More delays. Found out on Friday just gone why. Its a relatively new business and they had people in installing an oven in their paintshop. They were told it would be done in ten days, but 3 wks later its only just done and my car is the first to go in tomorrow.

i decided to let them spray it just for convenience and i dont know how long i would of had to wait to get it painted thru work. I also couldnt guarantee the quality of the finish if done thru work as since they only work for beers, they dont have a strong incentive to get it done and also, they're used to spraying aircraft which in all honesty doesnt have to look all the flash close up like a cars paint job does.

Another reason is if im not happy i can go back and bitch and moan!! *feels panties twist!*

update 3/8/04
Car is now at the mechanics. its getting an oil leak from the cooler fixed and then taken for a WOF (warrant of fitness- NZ's 6 monthly vehicle road worthyness check). Anything it fails on will get fixed. Im getting the belts and filters done at the same time.

The pics attached are as it was on Friday 30 July 04 waiting at the panelbeaters before it was taken to the Porsche mechanics.

Its covered in dust. it'll look good after a wash!. the bonnet looks warped at the sides because it is. i think its just the way it is coming out of the mould (its GRP). I was going to remedy this with bonnet pins before i crashed it. Im still thinking on it... rice or functional?
The 944 front spoiler has a kink in it from being stored in my stepdads shed, but its a temporary measure until I get back from my Op Antarctica posting in Feb '05 and I'll get another one-piece 924CGT front.

below are the bits iI had the Machine Shop at work spin up out of billet aluminium. They are a handbrake lever handle, door locking studs and a new gearshift lever. I also got 3 x brand new elec window switches (ex-Ger), a turbo vent grill and a bonnet badge kit by courier the same day!! Oh! And my phone too! It was an insurance claim replacement for my old phone. Old = Sony-Erricson Z600, new = Motorola V525. The Z600 died when it fell ina toilet dont ask...

The pen is in there for scale

i like the handbrake handle and the door lock studs, but the gearshift lever still needs work. Its far too chunky but the cnc-milled gear shift pattern in the top looks mint!!

update 16/8/04
Uplift of the car was scheduled for Friday 13 Aug, but after doing the cambelt, alternator belt, oil/ filter change, fuel filter and sorting the oil cooler lines, problems were encountered with the fuel pump relay and the flasher relay. With new ones in hand my mech discovered there was still a problem. So today his sparky was going to come in and check it out. He also told me on inspecting the headlights for the upcoming WOF that they jammed halfway on bodywork when bing raised... %@^*!!! Back to the panelbeater it will go! I can't believe they forgot to check that!?!

update 20/8/04
Yeah baby!! Uplifted the car today and dropped it off at the panelbeaters for him to correct the headlight problems. It was a 10min drive if that. It is running damn good and after it warmed up i couldnt help feeling that boost :)
While its there, the panelbeater is going to cut the 944 spoiler. On the 924CGT one there is a duct but the 944 one it is blanked out with moulded plastic so currently my oil cooler gets no air!

Hopefully picking it up on Tuesday, Wednesday at the latest. Take it in for a Warrant of Fitness then get a current Rego and its road legal again after 9 months!!

update 24/08/04
My last update for this page! Picked up the car yesterday. Took it in for a WOF but it failed on a loose connection in the left headlight. Went to work in it last night, put on the badge, put on a new headlight surround, played with the interior, etc.
This morning I gave it a wash. Was going to chamois it dry but it started raining- Typical! Took it out for a wheel alignment- its a huuuuuuge improvement!
Got a badly done repair fixed today for the headlights, re-checked for the WOF and passed! Got a rego too and now its road legal!
