This was my trusty old '78 porsche 924. I bought it at 132,000km in Aug '98 and sold it at 172,000km. i sold it to make room for my new toy! (see page 3)

Its completely stock except for the stereo and a 330mm wheel which ive now removed for my new car. I did some weight savings too, removing some sound deadening, air cond and the rear seat.

I started some panel work to remove some rust but i lost interest. I was going to replace some of the panels with fibreglass ones. I had a new more aggresive front spoiler and a rear valence to go on also.

Useless Triva:
*Dr Porsches hub-drive patent on the Lohner-Porsche car was used 72yrs later by NASA for the moon buggy in the 1960's. It was also one of the first hybrid powered vehicles (electric/ petrol).

*Porsche designed Audis tiptronic g/b. They also tuned the RS2 and helped develop the the latest Bentley le mans racer.

*Porsche technicians trained Subarus technicians for a short period after WW2. They later collaborated for the subaru legacy 'blitzen'

*The Porsche 924 Carrera GT was the most powerful 2L engine in 1981 at 210bhp.

*The term 'targa roof' which is applied to all cars with a removeable roof actually derived from the 1967 911 targa which itself was so named after Porsches success successful at the Targa Florio, a Sicilian road race.

*Ever wonder why the the ignition is on the left in all 911's and now the Carrera GT?
It steems from their early racing days at Le Mans. Porsche figured that the driver could run to the lefthand drive car, jump in, start the car with his left hand while putting it in gear with his right at the same time, meaning a faster start!!!

*A 924 vin 9246100162 was imported to Australia for the 1976 Melbourne Motor Show. Built to group 4 specification for the 1979 Repco Round Australia rally By Jurgen Barth and Roland Kussmaul using the knowledge gained in the East African Safari. The car won the under 2L class this being the first international victory for the 924 in motorsport.

*Porsche firsts-
First 4WD vehicle (Lohner-Porsche),
First production car with an intercooler (930 turbo),
First production car with ABS and airbags ('87 944 turbo),
First production car with bumper integrated with bodywork ('78 928)

Jerry Seinfeld on Porsche
Talking about the 911:
"...starting out with the completely wrong idea of where the engine is supposed to be and refusing to admit it for 55 years"

"Can you name another company in the history of companies that could get a positive PR spin off killing one of the biggest movie stars of the 20th century in one of it's products?"

"The new Porsche Carrera GT is not just the new benchmark, it's the new bench!"
