TRANSMISSION
In the first week of July 2004 I swapped out the 4T60e automatic transmission for a Getrag 282 five speed manual transmission. I used a Spec stage 3 clutch. I reduced my weight by about 100lbs. I used the pre-1994 subframe peices and control arms so that I could get an extra torsion mount to control the torque on the engine. I had to swap the passenger and driver side hubs with each other so that the brake calipers faced forward and the FE7 swaybar fit properly. Only minimal electronic wiring was required. I had to cut the brake pedal in half (which was done after the picture was take) to give the proper spacing between the clutch and brake pedals. I added the springs and shocks at this time too.
Here's all the stuff I threw away when I was done...
This was almost as good of a modification as the supercharger. Car was running low 15s with the automatic. After the manual I consistantly could match or pull on other mostly stock LT1 Camaros and Trans Ams. I figure I was running around a 14.5. I never went to the track to test this. I have seen other manual Berettas with 3400s get similar times.
WHEEL HOP
With the manual transmission came a lot of wheel hop. The car rides smooth at 100mph, but hops pretty bad when you floor it off the line even with the clutch all the way engauged. I bought FFP billet mounts with poly bushings to replace my two torsion mounts for $161. Then I spent $13 for a tube of 3M Window Weld for the transmission and engine mounts. These three things together dramaticaly decreased my wheel hop, although I still have some. I can atleast burn out through second gear now without wheel hop.
SUSPENSION
Addco rear 26mm swaybar with polyurethane bushings
GM FE7 front swaybar - upgrade to OEM FE3 swaybar, not a dealer option
rear shock tower brace
front strut tower brace
front lower subframe brace
Goodyear Eagle F1 225/45ZR17 tires
Enkei RS5 17"x7" wheels
KBY struts/shocks
Eibach springs
Energy polyurethane control arm bushings
Energy polyurethane tie rod caps
Energy polyurethane ball joint caps
Basically everything. My weight is under about 2800lbs. Other Berettas have weighed in at under 2700lbs, so I think saying 2800lbs is fair.
