Specs list 170 amps max output and 75-80 amps idle output.

I stumbled upon this alternator on ebay after doing extensive research, price checking from different manufacturers, and feasibiltiy of an alternator that would be a substantial upgrade over the stock 80 amp version. I looked at their reviews and noticed not a single unsatisfied customer to be found. I also liked the decriptions and sales pitch of their product that simply stated an assertive, confident "I PROMISE you will LOVE this alternator" claim.Combine that with a very affordable price that basically undercuts all of the competition with impressive yet believable specs and it really was hard to pass up taking the chance on the product on principle alone. Could it be possible that this product could be a better solution than most the other manufacturers at a much lower price point and they are a virtual unknown amongst the mobile audio realm? I trully feel that it is entirely possible and I'm going to find out in the next few weeks. I will let you know. So far so good.

Here the alternator is installed. I decided if the original was going to be replaced I might as well go ahead and replace the belt too since the car is 5 years old and it is something that will inevitably have to be done in the future. Why let the opportunity present itself and have it pass by only to be a thorn in the side later due to failure and maybe even lead to being stranded beside the road.? Besides, the factory belt while still functional had begun to develop small cracks in it and began making noise from gradually being stretched over the years so a more durable, better belt upgrade is logical for $5 extra.

Upon cranking the car I immediately put my charging system through the works with some measurements and a few basic yet effective tests. All tests were done without any stereo components running by the way. I turned on my bright lights about 10-15 feet away from a wall and cranked the AC to max output while rolling up and down the windows to see if the lights dimmed. I should mention my lights would dim even when rolling my windows down or up with the stock alternator and the AC or heater turned off. Well this time with the new alternator I didn't notice a single bit of dimming even with everything turned on full bore. This is a very positive sign for the most part. However using my meter I measured the voltage output of the new alternator against the stock readings I had previously taken and although the results of the new alt are still acceptible I trully wonder if I will notice any negative results. For instance the stock alternator put out an idle voltage of 13.9 - 14.0 volts with no AC or bright lights set to max and about 13.1 -13.5 with everything on at max. The new alternator puts out about 13.4 - 13.7 at idle with nothing on and about 12.8 - 12.9 at idle with everything set to max. This isn't making me jump up and down with an ear to ear grin but the fact that the lights do not dim at all while running everything at full bore still lets me know the amperage output has increased substantially enough to have fixed that issue. The bad part is that I am not seeing the voltage readings I'd like to see at idle with the stock alternator. At engine reving levels I trully believe that the new alternator is wholly superior to the stock one in every aspect but at idle the voltage isn't what the stock one is even though the amperage has increased. I will continue to do tests and put more of a load on the system in the next following weeks which I will post the results.
