I found a link to a pretty neat 'How To'. Some may not like the idea but when I see it done right these Angel Eyes look really good. I have not attempted to do these yet, but I have been told by someone who did that it is not as easy as it seems. Actually they said it's tedious to get all the lines staight and evenly spaced. Dont let this stop you the reward is worth the agony.

Angel Eyes

inzanesrt4's 2003 Dodge Neon SRT-4 This is a bad picture but this is the Fiberglass box I was building in my '00 neon before it was totalled. I was only half done but it held three 10" subs and my amp on the side. It sounded great I plan on building a custom box for the SRT4 also, but maybe something lighter.

Here is the "How To" for making the speaker box above. It would be better if I had more pictures but I can only find these couple pictures so hopefully its enough. Feel free to email me or leave a message with any questions.READ ENTIRE 'HOW TO' BEFORE BEGINNING OR BUYING SUPPLIES.

Supply List:
Electric Saber Saw or Skill Saw
Wood-cutting Blade
Electric Drill w/ a few different bits
4'x8'sheet of 3/4"MDF(meduim desity fiberboard).
1/2" and 1 1/2" wood screws
Titebond II wood glue
1 can of Touch n Foam expanding sealant.
1 gal. of fiberglass resin w/liquid hardner.
1 gal. of body filler and cream hardener
Plastic paddle (drywall product)
1 package of fiberglass mat
3' piece of speaker cloth
Sanding block or Electric Sander
60grit,100grit,300grit,and 600grit sand paper.(about not exact)
About 12 cheap 2" brushes
9 metal strips found in joist area of Home Depot. Used to hold rings together.
A few disposable buckets to mix in(about size of movie popcorn buckets)
About a 12 disposable latex or vinyl gloves. Not nessesary but a good idea.
Between 8 and 12 "L" shaped brackets.

Before beginning make sure you have a warm well ventilated area to build this box or else it will take along time for things to dry. Remove spare tire, jack and carpet from trunk. Use cardboard to make a template and get idea of shape of truck. Basically make box with carboard first its cheaper if you mess up. Trace the templates out on MDF trying to make things as close as possible.(as little waste as possible)

Using skill saw/saber saw cut the pieces. Set them up in the spare tire well to make sure they fit and are level. It does not have to be exact and perfect because foam insulation will fill in the gaps and imperfections but try to make gaps as small as possible for less chance of leaks.

Take the frame pieces out and use 1/32" bit to drill pilot holes.
Apply wood glue and screw together with 1 and a half inch screws. I used "L" brackets in corners to help hold them together and make box stronger but not necessary.

inzanesrt4's 2003 Dodge Neon SRT-4 When glue has dried place back in well. Use "L" shaped brackets to attach to spare tire well in as many places as possible.

I run my speaker wire threw gaps now. I think it makes for a more stealth look. Others like to wait until box is complete and add the speaker wire attachment like regular boxes. If you add wire now I suggest about a 3' section with about 2' of it inside bo an rest outside. In the picture I only have one wire because I planned on wiring speakers together. I suggest three sets of wires that way you can wire them any way you want and have the option to change wiring later. Now spray Touch n Foam GENEROUSLY around the bottom edge this will expand and seal box. I over did it and always do but a leak will ruin the sound of a box. Let sit for 24 hours to completly cure and expand try not to even drive if possible.

inzanesrt4's 2003 Dodge Neon SRT-4 I then put dynamat in the middle are as shown in picture not necessary but I do to keep noise were its supposed to be. Next make a lid for the box. place on top and drill pilot holes with 1/32" bit. Take lid out and cut out the inside. Take the templates that came with the speakers and draw six rings on wood then cut them out. Attach three rings to the bottom of lid and to each other, use 1/2" screws and metal strips. Staple speaker cloth to top of lid. Put other three rings on top with cloth in between two rings then screw them together.

Mix some fiberglass resin and some liquid hardener together in bucket and apply to cloth with brush everywhere except inside the rings. Make sure cloth is soaked. Then put on small pieces of fiberglass mat before resin dries. Make sure entire area is covered. Then apply second coat smoothly over fiberglass mat so nothing sticks up. Make sure everything is soaked again. Now let dry.

inzanesrt4's 2003 Dodge Neon SRT-4 Flip it over and do the same to the flip side. Make sure it dries completely.

inzanesrt4's 2003 Dodge Neon SRT-4

Use 100 grit sand paper and sand down so there are no rough or high spots on either side. It will have a whitish color after sanded.

inzanesrt4's 2003 Dodge Neon SRT-4 Mix fiberglass resin with body filler and use 2" brush to apply on entire lid except inside the rings. Let Dry completly. Use 100 grit sand paper to sand all the rough and high spots. Now mix body filler and cream hardener. Use plastic paddle to apply thick layer over entire surface. Let dry. Sand with 60 grit sand paper to shape, get rid of rough and high spots. Then sand with 300 grit sand paper. Dust off then use 600 grit sand paper to make baby smooth.

inzanesrt4's 2003 Dodge Neon SRT-4

Cut out cloth from inside of rings. Use 60 grit sand paper to remove any extra cloth, mat, and filler. Now its time to install lid on box. Use 1 and a half inch screws to attach the lid to box. Now you are done and ready to paint, upholster or whatever you want to do. Sorry there weren't more pictures I used the Dec/Jan 2002 Issue of Lowrider Magazine as a reference when I built my box a year ago. If you can find this issue it would help more.
